JD's recommendation of Martyrs, Inside and Fronteirs is probably what my first recommendations would be, too. Inside and Martyrs are probably my two favorite horror movies of... well, maybe ever. Maybe. Some other recommendations, off the top of my head:

Let The Right One In/Let Me In (they're both great)

Dream Home (the Chinese movie, not the recent Daniel Craig one)

Possession (the one with Sam Neil)


That should be enough to get you started.

I watched Frozen and Human Centipede. Frozen was okay, wasn't really too into it. Human Centipede was just bizarre. I didn't know whether to laugh or cringe during the film. Guess neither was my type of film, thanks for the suggestions though. I'll definitely watch some of the others on that list.

Whenever I am asked for recommends they are my 3 go tos. They are all French too, so it's not as coincidental as it seems.

I watched the last of the trilogy (Frontiere), was my least favorite of the 3 but definitely held my interest and was entertaining. Thanks for the recommendations JD, hope to hear more suggestions lol.

I think I'm gonna watch another French horror movie soon, a film called Haute Tension. Heard it's supposed to be pretty intense.

There's quite a bit. Have you ever watched any of Murnau's work, say, the silent Faust or Noseferatu?

I saw Nosferatu way way way back in the day, but have been meaning to watch it again ever since I watched Herzog's remake (which I really liked and had Isabelle Adjani in it, too!!!!). I see Kino released a nice looking box set of Murnau's stuff. Added to the wish list! Have you seen any Josef Von Sternberg stuff?

You can or rather SHOULD. Faust is the APEX of silent film German expressionism. :D

I decided to take a brief hiatus from my horror movie binge and watch a film I've been meaning to see for quite some time, a Japanese movie called Confessions. It centers around a woman whose daughter was killed and her quest to take revenge on those she holds responsible. The story is told from the point of view of several different characters. This movie is not pleasant to watch, but it's so well made, and the acting is superb. I'd recommend this film to just about anyone - it's that ****ing good.

Okay, back to finding another horror movie to watch for tomorrow, or tonight maybe if I can't fall asleep.

High Tension is, IMO, a great movie. Up until the end.

I was actually trying to think of some more horror to recommend to you last night and that and the remake of The Hills Have Eyes came to mind. Both Alex Aja films.

I thought it was well done and I enjoyed it. I have to agree with JD that the end sort of got away from the director, it was a bit over the top. But even with that it was good. It had an interesting premise: what happens when regular people all of a sudden get super powers, not all are heroes. Seeing the genesis of a a regular guy essentially become a, for lack a better term, a super villain was interesting. Also the genesis of a hero. For those who have not seen it be warned: it is shot in "Blair Witch" Style of first person single shaky camera style. Some people have commented that they have to close their eyes at times to avoid getting nauseated. I have never had a problem with that sort of thing but I must admit I was feeling a little green at times. Perhaps it was because I slightly under the weather when I saw it. But overall this was a satisfying movie.

SPOiLER ALERT!! Dont read if you have not seen it!

A question for those who saw it: Ok, when the girl with the bright red hair stormed out of the room and you got a split second look at the stuff in her hair did you did you immediatly think it was barf? Am I weirdo for first thinking the guy just got freaky with his, uh, load? Of course I knew what really happened a few seconds later but the dude already showed signs he was going down a dark path and he was good with his powers. My first thought was "Oh gross he went' money shot on the poor girl!" Of course I felt like a dope afterwards because they would never show that sort of thing in PG movie, but for a split second I thought they did.

Yeah, Frontieres is definitly the lesser of the 3. Haute Tension is a real divisive flick, curious to see what you think. I liked it more than others. And I'm not a fan of The Hills remake. Not horrible, just kind of by the numbers. Have you ever seen Pontypool? It's a film I love rabidly.
