Yeah, I think I posted about it last time I did one of these. Or maybe I forgot to mention it. I watched it fairly recently, though.

I like Fritz Lang, but haven't heard of that movie and from the sound of it that might be a good thing.
It might be worth watching at least once, depending on how much you like him. It does have it's moments.

And I STILL haven't watched Don't Look Now!!! One day, Orphy, one day!
    Do you have Amazon Prime?

    Not at the moment. :(

I keep hearing a lot of good things about though thanks to them now offering free streaming movies and shows. Psh! When I had it, lol, all we got was free 2 day shipping. :P

I managed to get through the whole movie. It's completely character driven. There's virtually no action. The plot has been done hundreds of times before. The best thing about it was the acting. Depp was probably the worst of all of them as it was a one note performance from beginning to end, basically. He stepped aside and let the other actors have the spotlight.

Richard Jenkins, Depp's boss, was great as was Aaron Eckhart as the corrupt real estate developer. It's the kind of movie actors absolutely love.

I enjoyed the acting pretty much but the whole thing was able to rise only occasionally from average.

A nice rental if you're in the mood for something other than fast paced action or huge multi-million dollar special effects extravaganzas.

So, SO good. And as usual, the domestic remake was just OK.

I went ahead and actually did watch Crazy Stupid Love against my better judgment. The first night I got 90 minutes through it and was prepared to say that it was vaguely watchable and had its moments but could have been a much better movie. Watched the end the next day and that part was extremely terrible (the ludicrous 'twist' that they bent over backwards to hide and that whole scene in the backyard, the even more ludicrous graduation scene). Considering that most of that crap was to pad the movie past 90 minutes, they really may have wanted to spend more time with the Ryan Gosling character so that he was more than a plot device to give Steven Carrell a makeover (I swear I saw a movie where he got a makeover to pick up ladies before) and more time with Emma Stone's character, especially at the beginning and during the part when both vanish from the movie for 30 minutes. A lot more could have been made from the turnabout of Gosling learning from Carrell that barely came up near the end.

They also should have eliminated the annoying son (and the babysitter with him), Emma Stone's dorky boyfriend (totally unnecessary and if that dork is lucky enough to be with her, he isn't treating her like that), and Emma Stone's annoying friend (everyone needs a friend constantly telling them to cheat on their significant other (even if that guy was a total dork)).

Someone mentioned Due Date and that is on HBO, so I'll go ahead and record that.

Actually thought the remake was better than it had any right to be. Was unecessary, but they kept the dark tone(which, in a hollywood remake of a foreign film is almost unheard of) and the performances were really solid all around. Ketel, I hope you get the version with the THEATRICAL subtitles because the original release had st's that were 1/2 guessed at and almost ridiculous.

I'm at the mercy of Netflix. No idea which version they have.

Let Me In is the name of the American version, so maybe Netflix won't send you that one instead.

I haven't watched the original one since it came out in the theater. I should watch it again!!!

I was thinking about this last night. You're right that it was better than expected. I feared the worst and was glad to see that they respected the original enough to make almost a carbon copy and not hollywood the hell out of it. Had I seen it first I surely would have liked it more but was just too charmed and in love with the original (especially the two main characters) that the remake probably unfairly didn't stand much of a chance. But that said, I found the first had a certain enchanted aura that the remake couldn't quite recreate.
