Thread: Last Movie Watched

Badlands is a great movie. Not my favorite Malick film though, Days of Heaven and Tree of Life are his best in my humble opinion. I also have soft spot for Thin Red Line. And I didn't particularly like Woman in Black. It wasn't bad, just kind of slow and didn't hold my interest.

Speaking of slow movies...



Went ahead and saw this last night. Started out pretty creepy but kind of stalemated after that and didn't maintain the creepy atmosphere. The climax wasn't exactly spectacular either. I thought the first one was better.

Just remembered a couple other horror movies I saw



I think The Bay is underrated. Or maybe I'm just a sucker for found-footage type films. Barry Levinson directs this flick about an epidemic that hits a small town. If you like found-footage films you should at least be somewhat entertained.



Adgy recommended Coldfish to me a while back. I had no idea what to expect. Man it was a pretty ****ed up film. The characters are crazy. It was unlike any film I've seen. Watching the main character devolve into insanity was pretty awesome.

Did you catch Days of Heaven recently when it played at the Dome?

No, saw it several years ago. I should watch it again, it's such a beautiful film.

I can see why it won Best Picture, one of the best movies I've seen in a long time

Another great cartoon movie that's highly recommended, even better if you can relate to the videogame characters featured.






Have to preface by saying I hadn't seen the first one and that is absolutely required to follow this one properly. Basically, a young filmmaker begins looking into what happened to the people that made the first film and eventually going back to the scene of the crime so you really need to see the first one.

It goes off it's rocker in the 3rd act leading to the end and I thought it was trying to throw way too many elements into the movie. Didn't care much for the movie overall.






I liked this horror comedy more than I think I should and recommend it. More a fun experience than a funny movie, it featured some hilariously gory kills and a lot of cheesy one liners by the evil clown that comes back to reek havoc on some teens. Expect the standard micro-budget acting from most of the actors and you'll be fine.






While it wasn't perfect, it is a complete shame that this extremely well done, ultra-bloody sci-fi action flick, didn't do decently in the theaters because it deserved a MUCH better fate. Stylistically and visually impressive with a couple of real nice acting performances, this is a movie that is easily good enough to warrant sequels and every indication I see is that the director would make sure they are amazingly well done. I'm disappointed that it's extremely unlikely to happen now.

Take heart Lags...Dredd did so well on dvd/blu rentals/sales that sequel talk is being revisited. Also it wound up on may genre specific sites in the best of 2012 roundups, so that hasn't gone unnoticed. It may be a direct to dvd and or lower budgeted, but at least there is hope. And do you get access to screeners or something? Yo seem to see a lot of movies like Stitches, before their actual release.

I had heard that as well about Dredd but it did soooo bad in theaters that I remain skeptical. The only reason I am slightly hopeful is because it was made on a fairly reasonable $50 million budget.

I do occasionally have access to movies earlier. Sometimes they are screeners, or like in the case of Stitches in the UK, they are released earlier in other countries.

Not as bad as others would have you believe. It starts off real good and definitely peters out the longer it goes, but as far as big ticket items go these days it was mildly entertaining. I will give credit where credit is due...the design is very nice, Real good blend of practical elements and sort of immersive cgi matte paintings. Weird amount of side scrolling action which is a little different. Not an actors movie though because Farrell, Bryan Cranston and Bill Nighy are all but wasted. Beckinsdale tries really hard to chew scenery but Biel does her standard 'puppy dog eyes' emoting. Good to look at overall, and some nice callbacks to the original but only worth seeing on cable or if you borrow it(like I did).



Ok. I am the first person to USUALLY dismiss stuff like this as pretentious. It's French, it's very vague and subjective, it's extremely 'artsy'...oh yeah, and it very FRENCH.

BUT...it really is a beautiful movie. With a tremendous performance. And I wish I was smart enough to tell you what it was about. I know what it meant to me, and somehow I think 10 different people might have 10 different experiences. I will watch this again and who knows, maybe I will have another understanding with another viewing. Not for the closed minded and NOT for folks who need a simple answer.
