Bravewords.com > News > ACE FREHLEY Remembers Late Bodyguard Eddie Balandas - "He Had A Heart Of Gold And Was One Of A Kind"

As reported earlier this week, former KISS crew member Eddie Balandas passed away in his sleep on Monday, October 10th, in the early hours of the morning from what appears to be the final stage of congestive heart failure.

Original KISS guitarist ACE FREHLEY has issued the following statement: "I was very saddened to hear of the passing of my old bodyguard and dear friend, Eddie Balandas... We had recently spent some time together in Indianapollis, Indiana this past August, and enjoyed reminiscing about our funny experiences together on tour with KISS in the 70s... he had a heart of gold and was one of a kind! "

Eddie was a KISS band crew member in their early years and is known as the "Voice of KISS" on the Alive II album where his announcement of the band is boldly proclaimed: "You wanted the best, you got the best. The hottest band in the world, KISS!"
RIP the opening to Alive 2 remains one of my earliest METAL MOMENT childhood memories.

Listen To Korn’s Bro-Step Skrillex Jam ‘Narcissistic Cannibal’ @ Antiquiet

This will undoubtedly divide the black-clad & perpetually angry oxy-monsters in the wastelands of middle-America’s Wal-Marted suburbia, but the good news is that the conversation will likely remain there once this underwhelming novelty wears off.

Korn’s not likely to win any new fans with this one (quite the opposite, I’d guess), but Skrillex escapes relatively unscathed. Whatever the case, you can download the song for free at Korn.com. The Path of Totality drops on December 6th. I’ll be spending the day listening to The Black Keys’ new album. This one, I’m not so sure.

Here’s what another musician, James Blake, had to say recently to The Phoenix about the rise of the bro-step movement:

“I think the dubstep that has come over to the US, and certain producers – who I can’t even be bothered naming – have definitely hit upon a sort of frat boy market where there’s this macho-ism being reflected in the sounds and the way the music makes you feel. And to me, that is a million miles away from where dubstep started. It’s a million miles away from the ethos of it. It’s been influenced so much by electro and rave, into who can make the dirtiest, filthiest bass sound, almost like a pissing competition, and that’s not really necessary. And I just think that largely that is not going to appeal to women. I find that whole side of things to be pretty frustrating, because that is a direct misrepresentation of the sound as far as I’m concerned.”
Seems like a dumb argument. Sounds like Korn to me. Maybe a little more sonically deep. Korn always was about doing things a little different.

KISS'd Off: Ace Frehley Fought Tommy Thayer ::KISS News ::antiMusic.com

Ace Frehley says he once knocked Tommy Thayer to the ground in an argument over backstage rules made by Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley – which they regularly broke themselves.
The drama took place when Frehley was still a member of Kiss and Thayer was the band's tour manager, before taking on the 'Spaceman' persona after the founding guitarist left in 2002.

In his autobiography No Regrets, Frehley says mailmen Simmons and Stanley introduced a rule banning wives or girlfriends from the band's dressing rooms. He claims they frequently brought their own partners backstage – but when he did, Thayer confronted him, leading to the fight.
Cannot wait to read this book.

Anyone listen to "Lulu", streaming online for free?

It's pretty much the worst thing ever recorded in the world, anywhere, ever.
