Default MoviePass -- $50/month, unlimited theater screenings

Netflix for Theaters: MoviePass Lets You Watch Unlimited Movies in Theaters

How's this sound: A movie subscription that lets you watch unlimited movies in theaters for 50 bucks a month. It's like Netflix but for the real, real life. Would that be something you're interested in?

Called MoviePass, it's a service that'll let users use a smartphone app to handle all their movie bookings. For 50 bucks a month (additional $3 for each IMAX or 3D), users of MoviePass will get unlimited access to any movie playing in participating theaters. If you're not that psycho about watching movies, they also have a 'lite' package of 4 movies for 30 bucks. Either way, they're rolling out a private beta in San Francisco right now that includes 21 different theaters and hopes to expand to other US cities throughout the summer. The goal is to put MoviePass in 40% of the theaters across the US.

Are you ****ing kidding me?! I would be ALL over that. Like stink on ****. And I would see almost every movie that comes out.

hmmm...on the surface it's a good idea. Fine print...are there blackout dates(oh I dunno...like opening night/weekend) and how does that work with the increasing number of assigned seating theaters? Sorry, but the cynic in me has to question everything!!!!!!

    They're good questions, worth asking.

I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I would be fairly certain that opening weekends would not be included. Still... a great idea.

most likely will have to wait a week, maybe two would be my guess. we get movie passes through SAG from my wife that have that stipulation, but we can watch movies for, I think, $6? it has probably gone up a little since the last time I bought a bunch.

MoviePass Brings Netflix-style All-You-Can-Watch Model to Movie Theaters

MoviePass beta is set to launch Wednesday with 21 Bay Area theaters (see list below), and then expand to other U.S. cities over the next few months. The company is targeting a fall date for a national launch. The current goal for the service is to offer access to 40% of all U.S. theaters at that point.

Here are the Bay Area theaters that will participate in Wednesday’s beta launch:

    Albany Twin, Albany
    California Theatres, Berkeley
    Shattuck Cinemas, Berkeley
    Camera 7, Campbell
    AMC Cupertino Square 16, Cupertino
    AMC Bay Street 16, Emeryville
    Camera Cinemas, Los Gatos
    Piedmont Theatre, Oakland
    Aquarius, Palo Alto
    The Clay, San Francisco
    Bridge, San Francisco
    Lumiere, San Francisco
    Embarcadero, San Francisco
    Opera Plaza Cinemas, San Francisco
AMC Van Ness 14, San Francisco
Big Cinemas Towne 3, San Jose
    Camera 3, San Jose
    Camera 12, San Jose
    AMC Eastridge 15, San Jose
    AMC Saratoga 14, San Jose
    AMC Mercado 20, Santa Clara
That's a fairly diverse listing there. Gives me hope that maybe a theater out near where I live might be one of the ones involved when it expands...

    from mashable
"Users are limited to seeing one movie per day. We understand this limitation, but it’s a bummer for those of us who like to see multiple movies on a rainy Saturday.
Users can only see a movie one time. If you want to re-watch Transformers 3 or another summer blockbuster, you’ll need to pay for your ticket.
    Tickets are non-transferrable.
Tickets must be purchased the day of the show.
3D and IMAX tickets will cost an additional $3. The user will just pay the difference in ticket price between 2D and 3D but can still purchase and pick up tickets the same way as with a regular 2D film."
