Nirvana Nevermind Reissue Gets Super Deluxe Treatment with the Devonshire Mixes
Nirvana's redefining album Nevermind is now set for reissue on Sept 27 via Universal Records, with a limited edition run of 10,000 copies in North America, and 30,000 for the rest of the globe. Who said America was in decline?
The Nevermind reissue will arrive in both Deluxe and Super Deluxe Editions, with a big difference between the two editions. The Super Deluxe version includes original remastered Nevermind release and B-sides, the "first full official release of the pre-Nevermind demos recorded at producer Butch Vig's Smart Studios," and boombox recordings of Nevermind rehearsals that include the songs "Smells Like Teen Spirit," "Come As You Are," and "On A Plain" among others. Excited yet? But wait, there's more ....
It's what we can call Nevermind: The Director's Cut, although that's not the official name. The Nevermind Super Deluxe version also includes the Devonshire Mixes, which is "the album as produced and mixed by Vig as opposed to the commercially released final version produced by Vig and mixed by Andy Wallace," as said in the press release.
The Nirvana Nevermind Deluxe reissue comes with 4 audio CDs or 180-gram heavyweight vinyl and one DVD that includes previously unreleased recordings, rarities, b-sides, BBC radio appearances, alternative mixes of songs, rare live recordings and a full concert DVD that features 1991 Halloween concert at Seattle's Paramount Theatre in full.

Pitchfork: Massive Smiths Box Set on the Way
As the Morrissey fan site Morrissey-Solo points out, Rhino is preparing to release a gigantic box set containing basically everything the Smiths ever did. The set, titled The Smiths Complete - Deluxe Collectors Box Set, features remastered versions of eight albums (on CD and vinyl), as well as reproduced versions of 25 (yes, you read that correctly, 25) 7" singles, and all sorts of other stuff. Seriously, it's gigantic. I's limited to 3000 copies worldwide and expected to ship October 3.
Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr and Frank Arkwright remastered all the music from its original tape sources. The set includes all four of the band's studio albums (1984's The Smiths, 1985's Meat Is Murder, 1986's The Queen Is Dead, 1987's Strangeways, Here We Come) alongside the 1988 live LP Rank and the compilations Hatful of Hollow (1984), The World Won't Listen (1987), and Louder Than Bombs (1987). All are included on mini-LP gatefold-style CDs and 180-gram vinyl.
It also contains 25 7" singles. And as if that wasn't enough, there's also a 36" x 24" poster of the band's album and single cover art, The Complete Picture DVD of their music videos, an eight-page 12" booklet of expanded liner notes, 12" prints of the cover art for all eight albums, and a code to digitally download the whole shebang. The Rhino site lists all of the 7" singles included in the set here.
The eight albums will also be available as a CD box set and a limited edition vinyl box set.
The Smiths Graphic Novel – Starting Something He Can Finish Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors
Unite And Take Over is a comic book anthology of stories inspired by the songs of The Smiths. Its premise is “What is the story that plays in your head when you listen to your favorite Smiths song?”.
Sean Demubrum (whose surname certainly sounds like Morrissey’s singing on occasion) has assembled fifteen creative teams for the project and will release the finished collection at the Tucson Comic Con in November.
If his Kickstarter plans go… to plan, that is.
