I was never into The Dismemberment Plan, but so far I am liking their new record:
First Listen: The Dismemberment Plan, 'Uncanney Valley' : NPR

If that stays and is enforced then it makes it basically pointless to play in Canada. I've been there on tour twice and it was already not a good experience - the border patrol are huge pricks, everything is expensive, the cities worth actually playing shows at are spread far apart so there are long drives, etc.

New live album from Nick Cave and a new tour coming next year. Playing The Shrine of all places. Personally I'm not crazy about the tracks they picked. Do we really need more Mercy Seat? Or three tracks from Push the Sky Away when you've got almost 20 albums of material to work with.

Yeah, it's all the slower stuff. Understandable, I guess. But what's this "limited vinyl only" bull****?! Guess I'm gonna have to download those.

The good tickets for that Shrine show come out to almost $100! ****!

Yeah, but there's plenty of other good slow stuff. I wasn't a huge fan of Push the Sky Away to begin with. I like it alright musically but lyrically he's starting to lose me - and that used to be my favorite part of his music. We've gone from:

"Despair and Deception, Love's ugly little twins
Came a-knocking on my door, I let them in
Darling, you're the punishment for all my former sins"

    to:

    "She was a catch,
    We were a match
I was the match that would fire up her snatch"

I would've loved to see him re-work some of his older stuff - Black Crow King, Up Jumped the Devil, New Morning, Sorrow's Child, Lucy, Lay Me Low, etc. Hell, if he went on tour and played all old stuff, I might actually spend $100 to see him, as it is, I'll pass again.

No argument here. I really liked "Push The Sky Away", but lyrically... yeah, he's not the same.

I haven't been to the Shrine in ages. Think I might look at balcony seats, but I don't know.

"Every now and again I have to remind myself, when all is said and done, the thing I do best — besides being a dad — the thing that people want to see me do, is stand up there and wiggle my fingers on that four string piece of furniture."
