'Prometheus 2': In Space No One Can Hear Ridley Scott and Fox Scream at Damon Lindelof -Bloody Disgusting

    Why? Greed took over.

Lindelof transformed Prometheus into a “trilogy”, thus stripping the first film’s conclusion of any meaning and setting Ridley and Fox up for disaster. This disaster was perpetuated when Lindelof announced he wouldn’t be penning the sequel. So, in short, the guy who convinced the filmmakers to make a trilogy, left them in the dust…

Sources close to the sequel have told Bloody Disgusting that the studio and Scott are literally “freaking out” over how to continue the story of Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace), and are taking pitches from basically anyone who can crack the story*. While a sequel is nearly inevitable, it definitely puts it in flux, and in a state of jeopardy.

*We expect everyone surrounding the project to deny this story. That’s standard procedure. Don’t believe ‘em.

What the hell? So they let Lindelof talk them into a trilogy, but they have no idea what he wanted to do in parts 2 and 3? C'mon...

The article is updated with Lindelof's response, in case you missed it. Still, I've said since I first saw Prometheus that I can't even picture where a potential sequel would go from there so to hear that they feel like they're in a hole (assuming it's true) isn't surprising. God I wanted to love that movie so bad.

We ALLLLLL really wanted to love it.

here is more on that update

Damon Lindelof Addresses Rumors Fox Is “Freaking Out” Over the PROMETHEUS Sequel Story | Collider

BD claimed that the “freak out” was due to Lindelof jumping ship and leaving Fox and Scott without a script for the follow-up, despite the fact that one could easily see Scott hiring another screenwriter to continue with the idea for the Prometheus sequel that he himself developed alongside Lindelof.

Naturally this report caused quite a bit of commotion, and the folks over at /Film reached out to Lindelof for a clarification on the matter. The scribe responded with a lengthy and genial letter in which he reiterated the fact that when he was brought on to rewrite the script for Prometheus, there was a strong desire from all involved (including Fox and Scott) for the film “to launch off in its own way so that by the end, it would not connect directly to the original Alien, but instead run parallel to it.”

Lindelof went on to explain once again that he declined to pen the sequel due to his busy schedule, and directly addressed the claims that Scott and Fox are in a tiff over how to continue the story:

“As to whether Ridley and Fox are ‘freaking out’ about me not working on a sequel, well that’s news to me. I retain awesome relationships with both. More importantly, the idea that there aren’t many, MANY writers out there capable of taking the reins is sort of ridiculous. I did not map out a trilogy and then walk when the going got tough. Anyone who says otherwise doesn’t know me and doesn’t know the truth.”

Prometheus Sequel Going Ahead - Jack Paglen Writing, Ridley Scott Might Not Direct - Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

Now Variety have discovered that the film is alive, with Jack Paglen hired to write the screenplay. He’s the man behind Wally Pfister‘s currently-filming directorial debut, the AI thriller Transcendence. He has a similar reputation for individual sci-fi thinking as Jon Spaihts, author of the first draft of the first Prometheus.

Variety also note that while Ridley Scott is in place as a producer:

it’s unknown at this time if he will direct.
