Default R.I.P. Best Buy...you are dead to me.

Ok, it's been a long time coming. And I apologize to those of you who work there and frequent this forum. I wish you no ill will, but I can no longer justify supporting your store.

So...WAAAAAAAAH we are Best Buy and we are getting our asses handed to us by AMAZON...a mail order service. We shall combat that by keeping our prices high and virtually eliminating cd/dvd sales(minus the brand new stuff...well, more on that in a minute). I do not buy many big ticket items and when I do I tend to NOT use Best Buy, unless it is a sale or I need it right away. I have counted on them for my cd/dvd needs for years. I liked being able to buy immediately and their rewards program, etc.
My dissatisfaction started a few weeks ago. The new Motorhead was due in store. They advertised in their circular and it even was supposed to have exclusive content. When I got to the WeHo store...no gots. Sorry, we can order it for you...
WHY would I order it from you? I have Amazon/Prime and I do not pay shipping. Also, their prices are always the same or, in most cases LOWER. I was severely let down by this and haven't been back till today.
I walk in the door and things have changed. The entire layout of the store has been redone to heighten cell phone sales. Even their TV section seemed to have been toned down to allow this. I had to actively seek out the poorly kept Dvd/Blu section (except for the well kept new release section) and the cd section, when I found it, looked like the shelves at Ross where stuff is just arranged Black Friday hurricane style. I will save time from now on just ordering online from Amazon and getting it on my doorstep. SOmewhere...Circuit City/Book stores are laughing and holding you a spot in the where are they now section.

Seems like it's kind of been that way for a while now.

I get it. CD and DVD sales are getting lower all the time. They need to change focus to keep up with changing demand. Sure.

It just makes them less useful to someone like me. I will still go in there if I'm looking for a big ticket item, like a new TV, but pretty much just to check out the different models. When it comes to something like that, price is going to be the determining factor and Best Buy frequently does not win that battle.

I thought they will match just about any price you show them from reputable online sites.

Best Buy is a nightmare. My facebook and twitter friends are reading what my wife and I are dealing with from them.

I haven't gone in store in awhile. I got tired years ago of having questions or needing help, and not being able to find anyone to ask. Especially if it was a big purchase like a tv, appliance, or electronics device. Even had a few works tell me "well they're lowing staff and hours to save costs, there's nothing we can do".

I also tried the "buy it online now and it'll be ready for pickup in store in 45 minutes" - only to find the store didn't have the merchandise I ordered when I got there.

The CD section seems pretty much nonexistent.

I got Married with Children seasons 5, 6 and 7 for 11.99 each a couple years ago though.Thought that was tits. Until I saw season 1-8 available for 35.99 some time later.

If I buy from them now, it's usually just an online purchase with shipping. But many times for CD's, DVD's, or books, I can find something equivalent or cheaper on amazon.

Only time I step foot in there is if I need something computer related, like a new power supply. When I went a few months ago, I had trouble finding one so I asked the people who worked there. Two guys gave me two different answers because they kept moving stuff around the store. Neither of them knew where it was. You know who helped me? Another customer who overheard...

While it seems like most of you are allergic to the "like" button, I just want to personally say thanks for looking anyway.

The MGM Casinos in Vegas got sick of paying out huge future odds when a team that started the season off as a big underdog ended up winning the championship, and couldn't keep up with other casinos' sharper lines. So they basically gave up, and now post laughably bad lines for every team. Their mentality is basically "Anyone who knows better will bet these someplace else at a much better price, but we'll just take advantage of sucker tourists that don't know better."

That's Best Buy. It's a trap for grandparents and people who think internet shopping is the devil. They don't even try anymore.

Once every three months or so I'll talk myself into going into one to look around, check out the sales, etc. It takes me all of five minutes before I'm laughing my way right out of there.

Unless I find something, in which case I scan it on Amazon and can get it for $30 cheaper there. Good riddance.

Haven't purchased anything from Best Buy in about 10 years. Amazon Prime FTW.

Holy crappe, that is exactly what I do, right down to the laughing. Best Buy gave up on competing with Amazon something like ten years ago, presumably figuring they would make more extra money on overpricing their DVDs to the point of parody than they would lose on the customers who learned of this magical place called the internet. Their CD stock has dwindled from Top 80 to Top 40 to Top 20 and only succeeds at making me miss Tower. The only thing that store is useful for is when I want something immediately (like GTA V) that they actually carry (probably not the Sabaton live album) or major electronics. They did supply my large television, which I comparison shopped the crap out of. I got my cables and wall mount elsewhere, of course. If they want to offer me a good price on Black Friday for AC4 and the last God Of War, they are welcome to my business. Either way, the rent on their huge stores is going to send them the way of Borders sooner or later.
