Maniac Remake Casting News Slices its Way Online | Horror Movie, DVD, & Book Reviews, News, Interviews at Dread Central

Some interesting casting news coming in for the remake of William Lustig's 1980 slasher classic Maniac. Who'll be possibly slipping into the shoes of the forever sweaty Joe Spinell? Read on for the details.

According to Bloody Disgusting Nora Arnezeder (Safe House) and Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings) have been cast as "Anna" and "Frank" in Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes, Piranha 3D, Mirrors, High Tension) and his producing/writing partner Grégory Levasseur's remake of the movie that put scalping back on the map.

P2 director Franck Khalfoun is at the helm.

Maniac centered upon "a schizoid serial killer who randomly stalks and kills various young women in New York, which he sees as revenge for the mistreatment he got while being raised by his own abusive mother."
Is there really a need for this. The original has some scuzzy charm and cult value but this just smells like another ill-conceived attempt to cash in a flick that very few have really seen. Cue the misogyny and violence towards women rants.

Rooney Mara Passes On Spike Lee’s Remake Of Park Chan-Wook’s ‘Oldboy’ > The Playlist

Variety reports (via Twitter) that Mara has passed on the potentially controversial female lead role in Spike Lee‘s upcoming remake of Park Chan-wook‘s Vengeance-trilogy cult classic “Oldboy,” which is set to star Josh Brolin as the lead and possibly Christian Bale as the lead antagonist. The film certainly would have been testing for the up-and-coming actress’ psyche, since she’ll have just finished up on another dark adult drama, David Fincher‘s “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo”—we’re almost glad she’s not doing it for her own psychological well-being.

We Will See the Details of Robocop's Creation in Remake - ShockTillYouDrop.com

He told Coming Soon recently: "I can tell you this: In the first 'RoboCop' when Alex Murphy is shot, gunned down, then you see some hospitals and stuff and then you cut to him as RoboCop. My movie is between those two cuts. How do you make RoboCop? How do you slowly bring a guy to be a robot? How do you actually take humanity out of someone

Colin Firth Offered Villain Role in Spike Lee’s OLDBOY Remake?

Man...as much as I believe this NEED NOT BE DONE, they are presenting a good argument. But if they shy away from the ugly corners...fail. It has to be all in...or nothing.

Looks like it has even more potential to not be worthless...
Michael Fassbender Talks About Playing ROBOCOP

If this happens it is a case of the internet influencing art. Padiha may/may not have said in an interview he wanted Fassbender, he backed off the comment but it seems to have had some effect afterall.

    21 JUMP STREET Movie Trailer

came out a few weeks ago, surprised nobody posted. Couldn't find the Jump Street thread either. For what it's worth, maybe this WON't stink out loud.
