Sure, every once in a while, squirrel finds a nut, and they find a way to top the source material(sorry everyone, but Zac Snyders Dawn of the Dead remake was the most recent), but for the most part, they find a way to make new tee shirts for sale at Hot Topic, whilst giving us dinosaurs cause to complain. There will be a Scarface/Godfather/Jaws remake...it's just business.

    1) My faith is based solely on the creative teams involved. At this point, and at the point most of these originate, I see no reason to be optimistic. Having said that, I think this is a story that has immense relevance still and if properly done can be worthwhile.

    2) There have been plenty of good remakes that have topped the original, and more recent ones that Dawn Of The Dead (which I will agree was excellent). I submit The Hills Have Eyes, Piranha, 3:10 To Yuma, The Crazies, and 13 Assassins for your consideration.

Ryan Gosling’s ‘The Idolmaker’ Remake | Up and Comers

Ryan Gosling takes on his directorial debut with a reboot of the 1980 musical drama The Idolmaker. Not only will Gosling be working behind the camera, he will also star in the film, according to a Deadline exclusive.

The Idolmaker — originally directed by Taylor Hackford, and starring Ray Sharkey, Peter Gallagher, and Joe Pantoliano — is the story of Bob Marcucci, a rock promoter/producer who discovered Frankie Avalon and Fabian.

i would submit one side-note for the above... those two originals sucked all kinds of ass in the first place.

i've never seen the remake of The Taking Of Pelham 123, but that original was also stupid... and REALLY boring.

I saw the remake and thought it was ok. Kind of a middle of the road Tony Scott flick (the same as his last 4 or 5 movies, if you ask me). John Travolta was actually not unbearable in it.

    I haven't seen the original.

Also "About Last Night" is slated for remake, I hope David Mamet is somehow involved!

For those who want to see more of Mamet's work on-screen, "The Untouchables" with Connery, Costner, and Garcia was scripted by Mamet.

Oh man, couldn't disagree more. Matthau, Robert Shaw...c'mon, that's one of the great old heist flicks. And weren't the crooks called Mr. Pink etc.? I seem to recall someone using that to some success.

the acting was fine, i just thought the story was weak.

right around the time the other one came out, they ran the original on cable... we were at the in-laws getting a party together, my mother in law and i decided to watch it because we were curious, and it bored both of us to the point of asking each other why they even bothered remaking it.

Yes. I am going to go out on a limb and say this might be a pleasant surprise.

Fright Night Remake Gets a Surprising Rating From the MPAA | Horror Movie, DVD, & Book Reviews, News, Interviews at Dread Central

Okay then. You can officially color us surprised. Apparently the 3D remake of the Tom Holland classic vampire flick Fright Night has gone before the dreaded MPAA and has come back with a rating none of us saw coming.

That's right, kids. Fright Night 3D has been rated R for "bloody horror violence and language including some sexual references." Look for Fright Night in theatres on August 19th, 2011.
This is very encouraging. Please. Keep the rating. As I type that I fully expect this to be recut/resubmitted for that coveted pg-13.

Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel Are The Leads in ‘Total Recall;’ Bill Nighy is Quatto

Whelp, I'm on board with this for sure. I'm not going to be over the moon about it considering it's being directed by Len Wiseman, but the cast is pretty goddamn nice so far.
