Well, with word coming out about studio interference, I'm less positive on the project than I was previously, but... there's so many ways you can take the Robocop story and spin it into a good one. Really hoping the studio will relent and get the **** out of Padihla's way.

Sam Raimi Wins 'Evil Dead' Sequel Court Battle - Deadline.com

The Evil Dead sequel is dead. A California federal court awarded Sam Raimi’s Renaissance Pictures a default judgment last week in its attempt to stop Awards Pictures from making an Evil Dead 4.

    wait. there's more...

What Was This Evil Dead 4 Movie That Just Got Killed By Sam Raimi? | Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

    Crazy.

Well, the whole thing has gone to court, and the Judge has ordered an injunction on the new film. Not after hearing the full case and weighing up both sides, but by default, after Award failed to respond. It seems that they couldn’t afford a lawyer.

The company’s president Glenn MacCrae has told The Hollywood Reporter that he will issue a challenge. One day.

I’ll believe it when I see it.

But what would this film have been about?

Sticking “Glenn MacCrae” and “Evil Dead” into Google turned up a Bloody Disgusting article from 2004. At that time, the film was described thus:

EVIL DEAD IV: CONSEQUENCES: Horror, 136 mins. Prod co: Award Pictures. Prod/scr: Graham MacCrae, Glenn MacCrae. Budget: $71m. Pre-production. Delivery date: 2004. Ash may need a hand fighting deadites, demons, the FBI and reality TV.

Amusing that this film had a running time before it had… well, more or less anything else. Also: “Ash may need a hand” is a surprisingly funny line. Largely because I think they didn’t do it on purpose.

It seems that Award were also planning a Big Trouble in Little China knock-off:

MORE BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA: Action/adventure, 127 mins. Prod co: Award Pictures. Prod/scr: Graham MacCrae, Glenn MacCrae. Budget: $75m. In development. Delivery date: 2005. With the mysteries of death revealed, Lo Pan returns and Jack Burton must stop him.

Shorter than Evil Dead 4 but on a higher budget equals more lavish SFX, right? Right? And why no FBI and reality TV here? Surely that’s what was always missing from the original?

It seems like Award Pictures might be having trouble affording milk to put on their oatmeal, so I’m not expecting to see any of their films to ever come to fruition. Probably for the best, eh?

My advice to the MacCraes is that they actually have some kind of original idea, and translate that into a film. If they’ve got the chops, they’ll make something good and it will be a success. If all they have is “borrowed” copyrightable elements, then they’re really on a hiding to nothing in the first place.

Maniac (2012) | Horror Movie, DVD, & Book Reviews, News, Interviews at Dread Central

So yes, of course – this is a remake of William Lustig’s original 1980 cult splatter-fest, but you can officially put the knives away: Khalfoun’s Maniac is as perfect a remake as Lustig’s creation could ever hope to receive.

My dad liked the Total Recall.

Gee, I wonder if one Kate Beckinsale had anything to with it. He said it didn't. #Denial

And dammit, I wish we would had gotten that Cronie remake.

Michael Keaton Cast As Robocop Villain, Damage Control Quotes Come Forth | Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

    and more...

Most interesting about Deadline‘s report, however, is that it includes a quote from director Jose Padilha:

Michael is the final addition to the amazing cast we have assembled for this film and it is so great to have the last puzzle piece in place. It is thrilling that everything has come together to bring this innovative new vision of RoboCop to life. We’ve got a great script, a great cast, some killer ED-209’s and I can’t wait to get Alex Murphy back on the streets.

A far cry from his secondhand comments on being bitter, and the process being hell.

Not every casting announcement comes with these kinds of quotes, so it’s easy to read this as damage control on the part of MGM and Sony.
It could not be confirmed if members of his family were being held at gunpoint at an undisclosed location.

Ok, I just realized, I don't know who Jose Padilha is.

Googled him, and haven't seen any of his films, they might be good, but I haven't seen them.

Dunno, I want this to not happen, the studio should just **** it up and sent it to development it hell.

Retarded. It is Friday yet, I need a drink.

Studio: But we wanna make money and this can sell a lot of tickets what do you suggest?

    Orphy: Not liking it.

Studio: But it will make a lot of money.

Orphy: But still, haha, they should leave it alone, but I want something provocative if this is going to get remade.

Okay, forget the old movies, just keep the concept, a cop, in a predominant black city, Detroit, gets killed and is revitalized, by mostly white people? Okay, as much as I love the original, there is something missing there. Make Robocop a black Detroit police officer, who gets killed mostly by a group of black thugs, but when he comes back, the new designed covers his face, and people don't know what he is, and because he attacks black criminals they all assumed that he is a racist, but he then starts attacking white criminals in the city, and the city does not know what to do, is this racial profiling, what?

What is a police officer's relationship in terms of crime and race relations?

And his partner still has to be white, a woman who was a bleeding heart, despite being a white minority, but loved the inner city of Detroit more than life itself because she grew up there.

And hire Antoine Fuqua and make him build upon what he did in Training Day. Dammit! He needs to build on that cake!

Studio: But mainstream America doesn't want to deal with race and have a black actor as the star unless he is Will Smith.

Orphy: I like cheese and you should go screw yourself.
