Interesting how everyone involved with this remake seems to make a point to say that it will be "different" and more based on the manga. I haven't read the manga, but it sounds to me like they're trying to convince everyone that it just won't be as good as the original.
I get that same vibe...but I still will see it. I have to know just how dark they are going to keep it. I guarantee this will be more in step w/the original than the Spielberg/Will Smith version would have been. Even an abject failure will be interesting for it's own merits. If nothing else it will bring some people to the original that may not have seen it otherwise. It is what it is. I just can't get offended about this stuff anymore.

According to THR Hellboy star Ron Perlman has joined the cast of Stamm’s psychological thriller Angry Little God, an IM Global film that Dimension Films will distribute in the U.S.
The flick began principal photography on Tuesday and stars Mark Webber (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), Rutina Wesley (“True Blood”), Pruitt Taylor Vince, Tom Bower and Devon Graye.
The thriller is the English-language remake of the Thai film 13: Game of Death. “The story follows an indebted man who gets a mysterious phone call telling him he’s on a hidden camera game show while also offering him a fortune if he completes thirteen tasks. The man accepts the challenge but is soon over his head as each task is more horrifying than the last.”
