Is Lone Ranger considered a remake?

I got a screening of it today. It pretty much is pirates of the caribbean old-west style, with more gun fire. Terrible dialogue, a bit of overt racism, and yet, it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be.

most stuff is in DEPP or WESTERN category, but good to read that it's better than expected. How were Fichtner/Barry Pepper?

Pepper was okay. His roll wasn't that big and kind of idiotic to the story to begin with. But he plays that sullen "I'm not sure what's going on but let me react" look well.

Fichtner was very good. I didn't even realize it was him until a few of his scenes later, which is a good thing. My only problem, they made him look too much like james brolin in jonah hex but with longer hair. But otherwise, he was great.

and i should stress, there is nothing "new" in this movie. Same train action and western shoot-em-ups we have seen before. But maybe i just like that kind of thing. Actually quite a few of my co-workers were walking out with the "nothing special, just meh" feeling on it.

Review: Johnny Depp and Gore Verbinski fail to bring The Lone Ranger back to life

Let's be clear: this is a terrible film by any standards. Overlong, with a script that reads like a notes session no one ever organized into something coherent, and totally confused about what audience it supposedly plays to, "The Lone Ranger" is grim, ugly, and deeply unpleasant. One thing it fails to be, in any way, is fun, and considering who is involved behind the camera and in front of it, that is truly shocking. If you're a parent and you're debating taking younger kids to this one because it is a Disney fan, let me warn you. This is an R-rated movie that has somehow managed to squeak by with a PG-13. It is startlingly violent, and it seems unaware of just how upsetting much of the imagery is. When you cut from the violent genocide of an entire Indian tribe to a wacky scene with Silver the horse standing on a tree branch and wearing a cowboy hat, it's pretty clear you have no idea what story you're telling or why.

There's a shock. Even if I wasn't completely and utterly beyond tired of Johnny Depp, that movie looked like the worst kind of tween-level cartoonish adventure movie (I can't make myself befoul the word 'action') from day one. I would not be surprised if it reaches the depths of those last few pirate abortions those two made.

Hey look, a secret source of mine got me a copy of the scripts to Johnny Depp's next five movies! Here's a preview of every page of every script:

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    JOHNNY DEPP
    (Dressed weird)
    Look at me, I'm weird!

    Johnny Depp does something weird.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But hey, at least he got to wear a bird for a hat.

So maybe the Lone Ranger will be lame, but what's this with being too violent for kids. I grew up watching Slashers and turned out okay.

Wasn't sure where this fits, exactly, but it was very cool nonetheless. Scenes from "The Great Gatsby" with and without green screen.
