    Philip Noyce to Remake ‘Bloodsport’

Screen Daily says the film will follow “an American who goes to Brazil to recover from the violence he has experienced in Afghanistan who gets involved in a martial arts contest.” Robert Mark Kamen (Taken, Colombiana) will write, and that’s probably a good thing — he’s been through the Luc Besson action wringer, and can probably turn out a serviceable script for something like this in his sleep.
Philip Noyce being the man who directed Salt.

Well, to be fair, it's a concept that's been done a billion times already, even before Bloodsport ever came out.

I fear the day they remake the really good ones like the Godfathers, Taxi Driver and Back to the Future.

Alien vs. Ninja on the Remake Chopping Block | BeyondHollywood.com

Producer Arnold Messer (via his Phoenix Pictures) apparently really, really, REALLY liked the original:

I was seized by the concept after watching the original movie and it hasn’t left me for a moment. I think we have found a very unique way to frame the story and bring a heroic twist to it that is fresh, surprising and one that will be a very entertaining sci-fi martial arts comedy.
From what I hear, the original isn't very good. Maybe a remake can improve upon it.

Or maybe this will just be another crappy movie.

Keanu Reeves Passes on ‘Akira’ And Other Updates

JoBlo exclusively confirmed with Reeves’ reps that the actor has passed on the role, much as Brad Pitt, James Franco and Ryan Gosling before him. In their reporting they also learned that Warner Bros. shut down a pre-viz department that was working on the film. Losing yet another major star plus stopping work on a film might seem like a nail in the coffin but, it’s merely a minor setback. Here’s the statement issued by Warner Bros.

Production on Akira has not halted or been shut down, as the film has not yet been greenlit and is still very much in the development stage. The exploratory process is crucial to a project of this magnitude, and we will continue to sculpt our approach to making the best possible film.
