Seeing as how jd and Goallum are trying to get threads going discussing movies and music maybe this thread can turn into a discussion of.... The Beach Boys!

Why do you loathe them???

I enjoy the harmonies the most. Their catalog isn't all that strong but they do have a fair amount of strong material. My favorites are in this mix.

Hearing their music on the radio almost daily for years in the late 60's and early 70's. Reminds me of all those cheesy garbage AM Radio pop songs.

Living in Southern California, it's assumed we HAVE to like 'em but I can do without.

I feel the same way about Queen. If I never hear "Another One Bites the Dust" again I will die a happy man.

But, certain Beach Boys songs have never lost their ability to transcend me.

It might seem like a cliche thing to say, but I think Pet Sounds is such a wonderful album.

I have yet to really absorb that entire album other than the well known songs. I have a copy that I'm listening to, so, I'm working on it.

"It was Pet Sounds that blew me out of the water. I love the album so much. I've just bought my kids each a copy of it for their education in life ... The Beach Boys only had Brian Wilson has their Resident Musical Genius whereas The Beatles had Lennon, McCartney, George Martin and the engineers at Abbey Road studios to form a behemoth of creativity.

The Beach Boys did have the unbelievable magic of Carl Wilson, Al Jardine and Mike Love's harmony and lead vocal abilities which the song writing/arranging of Brian used impeccably at times.
