Really really enjoyed it. Was thrilled it wasn't 20 minutes of exposition and then an hour and a half of them breaking things.

Friday Box Office – RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES Dominates with $19.7 Million Debut

That virtually guarantees a sequel. Hopefully they can come to a comprimise between fx and real fx.

I liked it, a good summer film. Not like it was superb or anything. However, the CGI was nothing short of amazing.
In that respect it was very, very well done.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes Director Considers 'Full Metal Jacket with Apes' Sequel Idea | Movieline

“You could start this story again eight years from where we left off,” Wyatt told Bleeding Cool. “The next generation of apes, those that have come from our protagonists, perhaps going in to a conflict with humans and showing real fear, in the same way as going into war for young soldiers in this day and age, telling their story.”

Full Metal Jacket with Apes? Does that mean that a monkey will be caught hiding a banana instead of a jelly donut?
Only by living absurdly is it possible to break out of this infinite absurdity.

I don't know if it will... but it should.

Is Rise of the Planet of the Apes really an Oscar player? - HitFix.com

Short answer...no. The Academy is too stodgy to embrace immediate change. It could be the first of many arguments for, that will eventually cause those in charge to maybe float a new category though. Not saying that it will hapen in this lifetime, think more along the lines of how the Grand Canyon was formed as far as timelines go.
