Ok, just watched SUCK, and while it wasn't as bad as I expected, it was kinda cheesy and definately low budget. Still wasn'r a waste of time or the worst thing I've ever seen.
Nice how they used footage from O Lucky Man rather than CGI to show a young Malcom McDowell. The Carrot Top dude is actually the lead singer of Burning Brides.
I think the best line on the movie came from Iggy Pop when he said the two most important things were: 1. always use a condom and 2. Never trust a vampire.
Does Jessica Pare get naked?
I like Chows work but KFH wasnt as good as some of his other movies. I'll get crucified for this but I liken it to Tarantino in that I think having a lower budget actually helps their overall movies and helps contain the wish to go over the top. KFH is still a movie though that can act as a bridge to get something mainstream to spark interest in his past work. Some of his earlier films are almost Chaplinish in scope and certainly worthy of hunting down. Believe it or not ive seen some older titles in the bargain bins at 99cent stores and big lots. Of course the transfer and subtitles leave lots to be desired but then again thats part of the charm of being a film buff no?
Mad Monk is pretty good.

What is wrong with staying on the right path in the very beginning? Are you asking me to forgive a rapist or child molester if he all of a sudden knew the error of his ways? Would you forgive one? Should I give praise to someone who's been convicted of two DUIs and kills someone on the third because he FINALLY realizes that what he was doing was not only stupid but wrong? These people are supposed to be extolled? I don't think that the supposedly "line of virture" you're referring to is some unrealistic idea or something that would kill your beloved plot device of a character arc. There is NOTHING wrong with doing the right thing the first time and it doesn't make for a boring character or storyline. There's nothing wrong with liking someone who tried to do the right thing, got pissed on and STILL tried to do the right thing.Quote:
Just because a character has 'dirt' does not mean they have to be liked. It's the overall character arc that you have to judge. You are far too dismissive of a character once they go too far over this 'line of virtue' that you cling so fiercely to. All I know is that he tried to do the right thing, got pissed on(literally) and tried the dark side...only to find his way back to the path of the righteous. Redemption, it's a well worn plot device that, if you had your way, would disappear forever. Please, if you ever get offered the job St. Peter currently is supposed to inhabit(if you believe in the bible) please, turn it down. Because it seems that in your eyes, any infraction makes you incapable of being redeemed. You need to judge the whole, not just a part.
And just because I don't agree with how you see movies or try to blow sunshine up your ass about a particular movie doesn't mean you can make that St. Peter comment or tell me to "Try again". I think that's crossing the line. I only said why I didn't particularly like the movie. Last time I checked, I don't think I ever told you to "try again" or that you were wrong. I thought you wanted to discuss movies with other people but if you insist on taking pot shots at personality traits at the people who are trying to discuss and bring up points about movies that differ from yours, then why don't you just retitle your thread "Agree with Jerseydevil on the September Movie of the Month"?
Ok, first off a guy who strays from the path of virtue is far different from a child molester/murderer. The character in KFH failed at being the lowest level hoodlum he could possibly be. Far from the example you offer. Maybe I am too forgiving but perhaps you are too harsh. Can we split the difference? And you get too angry. I love discussing this topic with you...but not if I am hurting your feelings. I am sorry if the St Peter/Try Again comments tweaked you the wrong way...see, PUBLIC apology. You are one of the highlights for me as far as opposing viewpoints, but you need to try not to get so offended by things I say. If you disagree, call me on it...but know that I do not ever want to offend you or make you feel as if I am belittling you. I truly enjoy arguing with you, but I need to be able to talk to you as an equal and not have you getting all 'little ball of hate' on me. I would never want to make you feel bad/too angry or alienate you...ok?
as far as Chow's KFH I tried to pick the most easily accessible of his works. I am now going to seek out his other movies, since I love this one so much. So, see...I gained something from this too.
As far as SUCK, thanks Blueline...as I offered, it's a much better movie than it deserved to be.
