Default Sherlock Holmes:A Game Of Shadows

SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS Review

Frustrations about Moriarty aside, the sequel delivers on its promise of bigger action and more comedy. Itís unfortunate that the script has to sacrifice the complexities of the mystery and the signature villain in order for Ritchie to show every single piece of wood in the world splintering into a billion pieces, but itís not unexpected since the first film was already headed down that path. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows doesnít play an elegant game of exciting chess, but itís comfortable enough to enjoy a game of exploding checkers.
Surprised this thread isn't up yet...figger it's because most people(EXCEPT ADGY) don't really care. The first one was, by all accounts, a servicable snoozefest and nothing I have seen so far suggests this one is any better.

Come on now, the first one wasn't bad at all, I quite enjoyed it

    Looking forward to this.

This is what Moriarty should look like.

The first one was fun. I liked it. Not enough to buy it, but I'd watch it again.

    It's got a 70% on Rotten Tomatoes...

Just saw it. Not nearly as good as the first one, however it's definitely worth a watch if you're a fan.

I'm concerned. I liked the first one okay, but this second one... I'm afraid it's gonna start to pull a Pirates and keep going back to the same gags.

When Penelope Cruz makes her 1st appearance you know its jumped the shark. Not to beat the horse but when Holmes is a bad ass from the get go; there will be no end to the liberties Hollywood can take with the story line. I predict Part 4 will involve crystal skulls and aliens.

Review: 'Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows' An Engaging, Entertaining Sequel Brimming With Charisma & Top Notch Action | Filmmakers, Film Industry, Film Festivals, Awards & Movie Reviews | indieWIRE

Ultimately, 'Game Of Shadows' is more complex than the first film, but it’s also a little less focused, and while the two qualities seem at odds with one another, the end result feels like a solid ‘70s or ‘80s movie where the filmmakers just aren’t in as much of a hurry, rather than a contemporary action-thriller that lacks steam or energy. Of course, it remains to be seen whether audiences as a whole will agree with that assessment – they’ll either embrace the bromance or balk at its context – but as a whole, Ritchie’s film rewards fans of the first film without merely duplicating its choices. Overall, “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows” doesn’t quite qualify as a great film, but it’s a solid, engaging sequel, and the right sort of antidote to the season’s stuffier competition. [B+]

Honestly think both of these benefit from the Xmas release. Lots of people find them easily agreeable, as opposed to something like War Horse, so the box office numbers are inflated with folks who are going to see it just because it suits everyone. If these came out in the summertime I doubt they would do as well, so congrats to WB for knowing their market.
