Saw this today. It was great! There is no way anyone born between 1970 and 1985? would not like this movie.

Super 8 is not a very good movie, but most people won’t care. Most people won’t even notice. They’ll be so drunk on nostalgia, on Spielberg’s name, on the Amblin logo flashing across the screen, on the fat kid that looks like he’s straight out of Goonies that they’ll hardly even notice that Super 8 is kind of a ****ty movie. It’s like getting drunk and going to a Scores strip club in Branson, Missouri: Sure, one lady is missing a leg, another a few teeth, and there’s some rust on the pole, but hey! It says Scores on the marquee, I must be having a great time. Oh, and look: There’s a tattoo of E.T. on that woman’s inner thigh, right below her tampon string. How Spielbergian!

    Ouch.
This is almost perfect. I really don't have much to add. It's pretty harmless overall but yeah. Swelling music, everyone holding hands and staring into the sky...tons of property damage with no lasting effects because you never SEE anyone die. Harmless...but forgettable.

EDIT: oh, btw I know most of it was digital, but watching this I could not help but be reminded of John Landis's TWILIGHT ZONE nightmares...there were scenes where kids were dodging explosions...and at least some of it was real. Irresponsible.

Ok I saw it yesterday and I enjoyed it. It seems like everyone was quick to throw out the stand by me and goonies comparisons raising everyones expectations way too high, but Super 8 stands on it's own. If anything it had a little Distric 9 flare to it, my suggestion to people is to stop reading reviews and go into it blind with an open mind and if you do I'm sure you will enjoy it.

I went into the movie having no idea anything about it aside form:

    A) Spielberg film
    B) Lots of money invested
    C) A MONSTER!!!!

    My opinion:
The movie was "cute" at best.. I left a little disappointed...

I cant exactly put my finger on why i didnt like it... Perhaps i expected way more from the film and hype. I found it hard to sit still for the entire 2 hour movie... Even pulled out the phone and googled the run time during the movie cuz i was so over watching it ...

I generally enjoy Sci-fi alien movies, but this one not to much...

PS. applause before, during, and after a movie really pisses me off. Just STFU and watch the movie... I bet all those clapping tool bags were duck fans...

LOL I didnt clap and thank God nobody did when I went. It was a good movie not great I think the over hype is ultimately what hurts this movie the most due to everyones raised expectations.

I tried to learn as little as possible about this movie. I went in not knowing anything more than what I had seen in a few previews.

I wish I could say that movie sucked... because it was incredibly entertaining for stretches. The kids were great, the atmosphere was great for the first 3/4 of the film.... but that ending... that plot...

**** JJ Abrams. He and M Knight Shyamalan suffer from the exact same thing as far as I'm concerned.

Super 8 is just more brainless fluff, heavy on emotion that if examined even a fingernail scratch beneath the surface makes no sense at all.

Just saw this today. After a while, you knew exactly how it was going to end, which kind of sucked. But otherwise, I enjoyed the movie a lot. The kids were really great.

I also liked the little nods to Lost. Like John Locke's jewelry and the Kelvin sign they kept showing.

BD Horror News - OMFG of the Day: Watch 'Super 8' Creature Autopsy!

Attempting to boost ticket sales, Paramount Pictures has leaked yet another video from J.J. Abrams' Super 8 (review), his sci-fi horror adventure for the entire family.

The footage posted inside features a trip inside Area 51 where scientists experiment and dissect the creature. Spoiler warning? Let's just say this clip is super, super sweet (with a candy shell).

"In the summer of 1979, a group of friends in a small Ohio town witness catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie and soon suspect that it was not an accident. Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town, and the local Deputy tries to uncover the truth - something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined."

    Oh yeah, Spoiler alert
