Watched it yesterday and I mostly enjoyed it. I agree that the ending was disappointing, but I was expecting that and it still didn't lessen my enjoyment up until that point.
I thought the 'love letter to old Spielberg films' aspect of it was handled really well, especially with the cinematography and I continue to be impressed at how versatile a composer Michael Giacchino is.
I don't think I'll buy the Blu-Ray when it comes out, but I might pick it up when it's used. I wouldn't mind watching it again.
‘Super 8′ Easter Eggs
For example: Did you know that Leonard Nimoy appars in the movie? How about that another one of JJ’s Star Trek stars plays “the monster”? Did you spot the references to Lost, Alias and The Twilight Zone? After the jump I’ve compiled 16 hidden easter eggs which can be found in the movie.
Skimmed through, gonna have to reread that later, but it is indicitive of what is wrong with the movie. Abrams put more time into these little nerd callbacks than he did to writing the movie. Shame really, cause the kids were really good and with some crafting this could have been a really great flick instead of the one use disposable that it is.![]()
Classic bait & switch. Sell it as if it is a monster movie, but its actually about a boy who lost his mother & a dad that has no idea at being a father.
I was more interested in the zombie movie the kids were making than the lame coverfield monster.
Bottom line....THIS MOVIE BLOWS!
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PIECE OF CRAP!
That's a little rough. The movie doesn't blow...I get that reaction though, because you are right about the bait & switch. Abrams wanted to make a classic Spielberg flick(which he kinda did) but he also wanted to make it 'edgy' with a MONSTER...oooh scary. Yet he straddled the line too much and never really distinguished this as anything more than a half baked movie.
