I enjoyed the movie. Saw it yestarday with the family. Yes, the action was a overdone, but that is the trend in movies the past 5 plus years. Will say, I thought it even better than Iron Man which was my favorite comic book movie until I saw this.

This is actually a great point. In my opinion this was the equivalent of that first Iron Man. A movie you had a hard time believing could be good yet you walked out with a smile on your face. And, to me, that's the mark of a great movie, all other things notwithstanding.

Saw it Thursday night and hated it. Saw it again Saturday morning and forgave it a little. Very marginal thumbs up. Very marginal.

I will say that, especially Thursday, I loved the opening and was extremely optimistic, even ecstatic, up until Lois shows up (not a knock on Lois, just using that scene as a time marker).

I guess there's no convincing you then. But I will add that I treated this very much like when they announced the hiring of Heath Ledger as the Joker and Anne Hathaway as Catwoman. They both got a big "wtf" from me but decided to trust Nolan's decision. I ended up really enjoying those two and hoped this would be no different. And again, I didn't hate this. I'm just extremely upset that they had a perfect opportunity with a great cast and fresh start, and the results were lukewarm.

This is kind of my point though.....

It's too much. If you give me (personally) too much of this then ALL OF IT becomes meaningless at some point.

There's a moment that could have been isolated that had it been the climax of action it would have been a truly OMGWTFBBQ moment... but it gets so totally lost in the avalanche of special effects that it becomes just another beat.

You guys who are con...do you see this as at least a good launching point moving forward? Has DC credibly established Superman enough(despite your feelings about the movie) that you can get on board with this moving forward and possibly launching the DC line more or less. Or do you dislike this so much that nothing short of a total reboot is in order?

And Doc, as far as your too much theory...I see it to a point. But I thought Avengers was far more guilty of forcing you to check out. I honestly thought all 3 action sequences were different enough in scope and had just enough breath in between them to justify what was basically an action run-on sentence. And for me the boss battle at the end was that OMGWTFBBQ moment you spoke of.

By the way, OMGWTFBBQ...that's a keeper and the new buzzword for those kind of thingees.

Nobody has mentioned it really...but wasn't Shannon the definition of OOOOOZing with menace? Is that man even capable of levity? I sincerely doubt it.

It was nice to see some BC/TV actors quickly pop-up, off the top of my head: Ian Tracey, Tahmoh Penikett, and Alessandro Juliani. All currently in Continuum.

Just so we're clear... I'm not in the "con" camp. I have no real issue with this movie other than that it was too long, too smashy and just.... too much. For me. But I have no problem with this as a launch point for other movies or a sequel.

And Doc, as far as your too much theory...I see it to a point. But I thought Avengers was far more guilty of forcing you to check out. Totally agree. But that's how I'm starting to approach ALL these big gigantor summer special effect action movies. Now that the CGI is so good that you can literally do whatever you want people are doing....... whatever they want. And more often than not, what they want to do is NOT tell interesting stories about interesting characters. They want to punch stuff til it explodes. Yawn.

Yes. That's what I was talking about. But it would have been so much MORE OMGWTFBBQer had they not led up to it with 45 minutes of punch punch splode splode.

I thought the casting in this movie was, for the most part, spot on.

I acutally thought Michael Shannon sucked as Zod. Kept looking at him thinking, hey it's a Quentin Tarantino wannabe.

Just for a little levity. I thought this was, well, super.
