A good launching point? No.
A launching point? Sure, why not?
I was reading somewhere today that Snyder and the script writer (sorry not into the Hollywood know to remember who it is) really struggled with including everything that was a battle sequence. Even the casual comic story movie goer, like my wife and youngest daughter, thought the battle sequences were too much. But the article from Snyder said they struggled keeping them all in and in the end decided they all had pertinence to tell the story.
And Shannon ... wow that guy can carry the menacing SOB character over the top! He scares the heck out of me from the screen!

7 Questions Left Unanswered by ‘Man of Steel’Final Thoughts:
Zack Snyder has said that he has a three hour cut of Man of Steel, and I wouldnít be surprised to learn some of that dramatic breathing room is in that version. In the filmís current state, itís a more than satisfying popcorn movie that couldíve been as incredible as its titular character. Thatís also what makes a followup to Man of Steel all the more exciting. Thereís room for improvement.

There's a TON of stuff I agree with wholeheartedly in that article. I read it this morning.
I have more questions yet.
