    Details on the Slurpee/THOR Promotion

As part of the Slurpee (R) brand’s promotional campaign on Collider this month, we’ve got the details on the special Thor promotion running at 7-Eleven (R) in anticipation of the film’s May 6 release. Thor is partnering with the Slurpee brand for 7-Eleven goers to “Become the Thor of Your Store.” Four premium Thor Slurpee cups and straws are now available at your local 7-Eleven store. Additionally, there’s a free Slurpee iPhone/Android app that unlocks exclusive Thor content for your phone. Simply text “App” to 711711, or visit the Android Marketplace or App Store to download the app. Each check-in on the app unlocks Thor wallpapers, Marvel Digital Comic-Book Subscriptions and rewards points that can be redeemed for things like movie posters and Slurpee swag.

Last but not least, a special “Blue Lightning Blast” flavor is available at 7-Eleven this month. “Drop the hammer on your tongue with a thunderous new taste that could only have come directly from the magical world of Asgard. Side effects include a blue tongue and a powerful compulsion to wear tights and grow your hair out.” In short, drink “Blue Lightning Blast” and see the new movie Thor, starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Kat Dennings and Anthony Hopkins. Thor hits theaters in 3D on May 6.

THOR Review; Plus Video Blog Review of THOR

If you were nervous that Marvel would somehow not be able to bring Thor into the same universe their previous movies occupy, don’t be. I’m happy to report Thor is not only great, but it kicks open the door to so many other characters. If audiences respond (which they should), over the next few years, look for many other larger than life characters on movie screens.

But let me back up a second.

A few days ago, on the Paramount lot, I was part of a very small group that got an early look at director Kenneth Branagh’s Thor. Since my set visit, I’ve known Thor had a great story and it was extremely respectful to the way Jack Kirby and Walter Simonson brought the character to life. What I was unsure about was the CGI. Could I believe that Asgard was real? When Thor throws Mjolnir in battle, would it do the damage I’ve always imagined? Could Marvel bring Thor into the same universe as Tony Stark and make it work? Would the movie explain Bifrost, Heimdall and the Rainbow Bridge to average movie goers and make them believe it wasn’t science fiction? I had so many questions going in, but I’m so happy to say that while I do have some nitpicks with the movie, overall I walked out of the theater extremely happy.

Yeah, surprised...looks like Marvel might have pulled it off. Looking forward to it now. No post 3d though. Plain old 2d.

    Amen. 2D or bust.

It's too bad, though, that if you want to see it in IMAX, you have to see it in 3D. :(

Harry is absolutely thrilled by THOR!

Ain't It Cool News: The best in movie, TV, DVD, and comic book news.

I’ve been greatly concerned about THOR. The trailers seemed afraid of revealing much of anything of Asgardian culture or dialogue. The WARRIORS THREE have really not existed in the least in the advertising campaign. I mean – let’s face it, if you’re a THOR geek – you want Asgardian awesomery. That’s the big deal. You want to see THOR wielding Mjolnir like we’ve seen in panels of the comic for the last nearly 50 years...

Holy s***. They made a very entertaining, engaging and fun THOR film. When Fandral lets out a laugh in the midst of battle – and is smiling… I just loved it. Hogun and his mace. Volstagg eating… Loki making duplicates… Thor swinging that ****ing hammer. I’ve seen these things and they did not suck. They ruled. Oh – and Chris Hemsworth? He’s a star. How big? One that Natalie Portman seemed 1000% smitten with in this film.

I’m very happy. This is so much more of THOR than ever really hoped I’d get in a first THOR movie. Sure – Mark Protosevich’s brilliant THOR script – which was all either in the Viking age or in the realms of Asgard – was the great THOR film that I would’ve killed to see… but at the same time, the cast is cast and the sets are built to begin a tale of that scale. NOW – get me some CAPTAIN AMERICA & GREEN LANTERN & 1960’s era X-MEN action stat! I’m giddy about this summer!!!
