Threads????

Adgy and Me have been chatting...with LGK moving to bigger servers we may not have to fear the chop anymore. Meaning, we COULD go back to the old ways of starting threads for everything instead of going categories. You guys have lived it both ways and pros/cons have been expressed in both directions. Potential hazards exist...the search function is still wonky. So some research needs to be done to find out if this even makes sense, after all, what good is having 17 pages of threads if you can't find any of them? So we decided to get some feedback from y'all lurkers and posters to see what you think. All feedback is, as always, appreciated. And no opinion is invalid(well except for this sucks or the like)

Here my whole thing.......

As long as you and adgy don't behave like Entertainment News Reporters and flood the forum with every single link about upcoming projects that the two of you think someone MIGHT someday have an interest in then I would love to go back to the old system of each thing having it's own thread.

But when I check the boards and there are 20 new threads and none of them have any actual conversation going on and are just a collection of links to other sites that I could just as easily bookmark and check on my own.... I get frustrated.

Some of the general threads are still good but I liked having separate threads for most of the movies, and some of the bigger TV shows. The FX thread has only hit 5 pages in the last 3 months, but the SOA thread has 5 pages in about the same amount of time. There is a happy medium in there somewhere, Im just not sure where.

This was my first thought as well. But it's too liquid, too much room for interpretation. And with the search function not at 100% you can't just type in a subject and see most of the results. I think that the categories for the most part have worked. Most things have been contained to a large box until it organically grows...Wilfred for example. I think the categories curb what Doc Naysay(justifiably) is railing against. It allows Adgy, me and anyone else to put obscure little tidbits out there without creating the multiple one post threads. But I know where I(and Adgy ) have put things and what we have put there so I have an advantage. I guess that's why we are asking you guys.

I think is pretty much the way to go. Perhaps once a movie is actually released or on the verge of being released, it can graduate to it's own thread. That way, when the thread dies due to inattention, it won't really be missed if it gets purged and then All Things threads would be recent enough to (hopefully) escape that same fate.

I voted for separate threads. It's nice to see news about, Wilco's new CD without having to search the last few pages of the "The Music news/discussion thread" for something that might interest me.

I stopped looking at most of the threads since they were lumped together.

Sadly, RinkRat has confirmed that LGK's servers are the same as they were before becoming Officially Kings Related, so the threat of purging continues to loom.
