    Default We Need To Talk About Kevin

    This movie looks ****ed up. I haven't read the book yet, but I remember it coming up when we had that "Most Disturbing Books Of All Time" thread a couple years ago.

    WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN movie trailer

    [nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQEvdWH9djY&feature=player_embedded"]YouTube - WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN - HD-Teaser 1 - Lynne Ramsay - Cannes 2011[/nomedia]

    Lynne Ramsay (director of the modern kitchen sink masterpiece Ratctacher) directs We Need to Talk About Kevin, an adaption of the novel by Lionel Shriver.

    The film which stars John C. Reilly and Tilda Swinton just premiered at Cannes to fairly positive early reviews. The first trailer has appeared online.

    Synopsis:
    The mother of a teenage boy who went on a high-school killing spree tries to deal with her grief -- and feelings of responsibility for her child's actions -- by writing to her estranged husband.

    I thought I started a thread on this...it looks good. Especially J.C. Reilly doing a dramatic part. But if you remember PERFECT STORM he has it in him.

    If you started a thread, I couldn't find it. Was it pre-purge?

    Seems like this took forever to get a trailer for.

    REVIEW: “We Need to Talk About Kevin” (****)

    If “We Need to Talk About Kevin” is to be labelled any one person’s triumph, however, it must be Lynne Ramsay’s: this question-riddled film may not have quite the environmental specificity of “Ratcatcher” and her shorts, or the tingly intimacy of “Morvern Callar,” but it’s the bigger, broader application of her five-sense style she needed to make for this long-awaited career re-arrival. It’s a testament to the extent that she’s sinuously rerouted her harsh source material that full knowledge of the outcome didn’t loosen the knot in this viewer’s stomach from first pristine frame to last; “I want to throw up,” I remarked to a friend upon exiting the theater. “But in a good way.”

    Cannes: 'We Need To Talk About Kevin' Explores Blame, Guilt, Motherhood | The Wrap Movies

    With so much going on at once, and such tough emotional terrain to cover, Ramsay never drops the ball. She tells her story as well with or without dialogue, and the film just gets better as the story unfolds. There is careful attention paid to choices of color, combinations of objects and people in the frame. Ramsay made the film after a near 10-year hiatus that followed her last feature, "Morvern Callar," but her work is deliberate and sure-handed.

    Another Gorgeous Poster For Lynne Ramsay’s ‘We Need To Talk About Kevin’ > The Playlist

    An adaptation of Lionel Shriver‘s 2003 novel, the film co-stars John C. Reilly and Ezra Miller and tells the story of the the fractious relationship between a mother and her son who commits a horrific act that forever changes both their lives. Moving back and forth through time, we track the relationship that continues to fray over the years, as the pair goes through hatred, cynicism and almost a grudging acceptance that they’re family. But this is devastating stuff, chronicling both the events before and after the shocking central incident with a finale that will leave you breathless. Oscilloscope has a tough movie on their hands, but they are hoping the continuing beautiful marketing for the picture can get interest moving.
