Default What Can You Tell Me About DirecTV?

I am getting DirecTV installed on Saturday, after having AT&T for the last couple of years.

I got tired of AT&T with what I'm paying for just the cable tv they supply you with such limited channels. They keep taking off channel after channel. Not to forget to mention especially the NHL network, no NHL center ice, and took away some kid channels from what my daughter would watch.

So I figure for what I'm paying AT&T, I could just get DirecTV for the same price. I actually got a better bundled package deal, than what AT&T was giving me all along for my internet, cable, and home phone line (for which I think is, yes, a waste).

That I just hoping everything goes smooth with the installation. Where I live my landlord of this property wants the dish satellite on a stand, so they drill NO holes in the roof. Do ANY of you know about that? If they may charge extra for the stand? and how it is having it?

ANY other comments about DirecTV would be appreciated to hear, so I know.

    Thanks in advance!!

I miss my Directv immensely(new landlord will not allow it and yes, I know I can fight it but it's a tenuous situation). It truly is the best of all the services as far as quality of signal and options. I liked that you could hook a portable hard drive to your dvr for more storage space. Don't sweat the stand...I forget if they charge you extra(don't think so...may have changed). Their install guys are pretty reliable too. All in all you should love it. They have their occasional bouts with content providers like any other company but throughout the 10+years I had DTv the best word I can use to describe it is consistent. Relatively easy to deal with as far as customer service too. I haven't a bad word to say about them. Enjoy.

I was with my cable company for 6 years, and they kept raising the rates so I made the jump over to Directv and am very pleased. No poor signal at all, and their whole home DVR/Genie thing is pretty cool and has a better signal than the one from the cable company. I had the installer do an extra for the install (go in the wall rather than outside of the wall) and it was an extra $49-the cable company wanted $150)

The customer service is always excellent. Call service cancellation department anytime you want anything (lowered bill, free showtime, free sunday ticket or a discount on CI).

Ditto, dumped TWC about five or six years ago. Much better picture quality, ALL Center Ice games are in HD and you choose home or away feed. Plus more channels.
I have a roof mounted dish near the ocean and have never had a picture problem with wind and or rain. It's rock solid.

I don't consider this excellent customer service. I've been with DirecTV long enough to remember when their customer service actually was excellent right when you called. The key words in the above are "service cancellation department." These days, even for the smallest problem, you have to call, give the operator a reason to escalate and/or send you to the cancellation department (this can be as simple as demanding to be cancelled as soon as you are denied your request, which you will be), and then you will be treated nicely. You also need to be prepared to actually cancel or back down if you don't get exactly what you want, but they will try to work with you at this point. They probably do this to not give away the farm unnecessarily and being able to not give anything to customers who will just give up after being told "no" once. That may be a smart practice, but it's annoying to me.

As far as the actual product, I think it's the best overall. Other companies may have one thing or another better than DirecTV, but I don't think anyone has a better overall package.

I will, add, however, that if it weren't for Kings games, Sunday Ticket, and a few other sports options (as well as the variety I need for work), I'd actually much rather have only free OTA reception and fill in with movies and shows from the Internets.

    Enjoy your DirecTV!

I call straight to cancellation department because i KNOW that regular CS won't do anything.

Whenever they have disputes which might force them to cancel channels i end up getting things like $30 off my bill for 3 months. I used college football disputes as an excuse to get free NFL Sunday Ticket and i'm not even a fan of college football.

You are wise to do so, and your advice was truly excellent, BTW. I should have mentioned that in the first post, but, in all my ranting, I forgot!
