Sadly I was a latecomer to the magic of the King. Kq was a fan and I never got it. But I have evolved and thanks to her and Kevin Smith I am a huge KD/Mercyful Fate fan. Just some lovely creepy stuff. The soundtrack to stuffing your mother's corpse in the attic window...always searching, always watching...always judging...SHUT UP MOTHER!!!!!!
You don't happen to run a motel, eh JD? :O

I'm listening to the first movement of Beethoven's Sixth Symphony, conducted by John Eliot Gardiner and performed by the Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique.
Beethoven's 6th Symphony With High Definition Pictures From Italy & Germany! - YouTube
(Not the exact recording I'm listening to, but it's a good representation.)
What's interesting about these performances and recordings of Beethoven's nine symphonies is that they were the first to be recorded digitally using period intruments. EVERY instrument played by the members of the orchestra was built while Beethoven himself was alive.
The Sixth Symphony is one of two that can literally make me weep...the other being the Ninth, which in my opinion, is the absolute pinnacle of man's musical achievement. This is powerful, emotion-inducing music, my friends. And it is not to be missed. Classical masterpieces are a very important part of world musical history. If you're a fan of any musical genre (no matter how unrelated to classical music you think your favorite genres are), I would highly recommend you obtain copies of these masterpieces from Beethoven. To learn to appreciate it is to know music.
The boxed set of CD's of Gardiner's recordings isn't cheap, at about $140. But you can download all nine symphonies from Amazon for about $45, here:

If you have to pick and choose, the "don't miss" Symphonies are six, seven, and nine.
