Well I guess you just really missed out. I'm tempted to see them in Vegas tonight, but that's a bit of a drive for me just getting off work now. It is a shame for both of us, because who knows when they'll pass through these parts again?

    Oh. Sweeeeet.

Here's another Savatage song that just missed my cut, this one with Jon Oliva singing. It took me a while to get used to his voice, so I went with a song that starts nice and slow before he starts going to town.

Just a great ROCK band. Cd came with a handwritten note, a buncha swag and a friend request from singer/bassist Michael Hannon. Nice touch. I woulda had to like this regardless of the music just for that extra. Good thing the cd is spectacular dive bar kickass rawk, with a spanking cover of Nugent's Dog eat Dog.

Not a bad way to start your day, considering it is your birthday. The iPod shuffle produced The Cars, "Moving In Stereo" as the first tune of the day. Nice!

My list of 50 top Savatage songs is now a list of 52, because I discovered a major oversight and I didn't want to bump the song at the bottom of the list. And 52 makes more sense than 51, since it was a year until Wacken 2015 when the show was announced. Since I bump songs up and down every time I look at the list, I'm going to refer to it as 'top' and not 'the top', and use '52' and not '#52', although the two top songs are carved in stone.

52 - The Message (Sirens bonus track)

It seems fitting to start with a song from the first album, even if it wasn't actually on Sirens when it was first released. For all I know, the song was recorded years later, although it can't be too long after, since Jon Oliva is singing and Criss Oliva is on guitar. The sound fits with the first three albums, so I think it is close enough to being one of their first songs. The Message is just a quick rocker with lyrics that are not particularly deep, but the Olivas are in fine early form together, power vocals blasting through the sweet, sweet guitar lines.

I had a chance to see Primus during the Tales from the Punchbowl era the Universal Amphitheater, but family drama came up, and I didn't go.
