I haven't been paying attention - I didn't know he'd written more H&L stories. The last two books of his that I read were "The Bottoms" and "A Fine Dark Line" both of which I loved.

Yeah, Vanilla Ride came out in 2009 and then Devil Red last year. And then two novellas, Hyenas and Dead Aim. I'm with JD in that none of these are as good as the previous books, but they're still a lot of fun and I'd recommend 'em.

And if you haven't read Leather Maiden or Edge Of Dark Water yet, you should check those out, too.

I haven't read those, but I'll give 'em a try. I like the H&L stuff, but there's only so much you can do before it just becomes the same story. It's kinda like some of Terry Pratchett's stuff - enjoyable to read but easily forgotten.

Just started reading this...series of four so far about a magician who gets sent 'downtown' by his peers and finds his way back to exact revenge. Not bad...lots of stereotype mines to dance around, but pretty breezy so far. I hear there's a new Jim Butcher book that turns things entirely upside down so I may have to figure out where I left off and catch up on those books too.

    Alastair Renolds-Redemtion Ark.

I have been on a sci-fi kick of late and this the second book of his acclaimed trilogy. Dude tells a good story.

This has been on my shelf for while (I actually bought on my last trip to England), I have to start it someday.

It definitely helped to put the bits and pieces of English history I know into context. I especially enjoyed the beginning (it starts at the end of the last ice age) through the dane invasions. After that I felt it bogged down until the industrial era.
