I really enjoyed The Devil Wears Prada. It reminded me of a shoot I did a couple of years ago at a spa during a retreat with a bunch of magazine beauty editors. Some of those magazine people really ARE like that. Cute and fun mindless read, IMO.

Finished Umberto Eco's "The Name of the Rose". Really an amazing literary achievment but kind of a bummer if you don't speak Latin as it was sprinkled throughout the book. I think there is an edition that has translations but the version I got didn't have 'em.

Currently reading luvzig's recommendation. Erik Larson's "The Devil in the White City". Looks to be a great read.

I finally finished "The Shining" on Friday. Good book. At times I was afraid to read at night because I didn't want to be scared before going to bed.

Now the search for the next book to read. Maybe I'll pick up "The Da Vinci Code" and give it another shot....only made it to about page 20 the first time.

This past month (January) I finished two books...

This one's a winner. Pretty much shreds apart the myth of Lincoln as being a heroic type president. It's kind of disheartening in a way, but it's still a very good read.

This one was a solid read as well. The author (John McWhorter) writes with a conservative slant, but it wasn't anything too over the top or unbearable for us libs.

I haven't decided what I'm going to read next, but I'm tempted to delve into the LOTR trilogy. (I've never read any of them)

Anybody read Jared Diamond's Pulitzer Prize Winning Book "Guns Germs and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies"

He just came out with another book titled "Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed"

"Catch Me If You Can" was an easy and entertaining read. Now I'm reading "The Da Vinci Code" and I'm going to finish it this time...really.
