    Default Wilfred

I know some of you are watching this confounding show..... so let's hear it.

    Theories? Thoughts?

What's the story behind Wilfred? Why can Ryan see him? Who was Bruce? What was that all about?

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?!

I don't understand what's so hard to understand about it.

I'm not talking about the plot... the plot is straight forward...

I'm talking about the larger issues.

    Is Wilfred real?
Is he just a manifestation of Ryan's subconscious?
Is everything that Wilfred does really something that Ryan has done?
Is Wilfred a force for good or evil or just random impulses?

    Who was Bruce?
    Could anyone else see him?
    Was Sneakers really possess Wilfred?
Did Wilfred actually kill that woman?

Come on darby! There's more questions in here than LOST!

Who cares? It's a brilliant show. Just sit back and try to enjoy it.

    Wilfred is a real dog.
His human personality, aka the guy in the dog suit, is a manifestation of Ryan's subconscious mapped onto the actions of this dog.
In my estimation, Wilfred is a mis-behaving dog. I think it's partially that he does care for Ryan, but I think it's Ryan's subconscious that creates the reasoning into a logical "lesson."
Wilfred is a dog who does dog stuff. Ryan's mind has an end game, though, and whether that is good or evil....

Bruce was a character created by Wilfred, so in the end, he was a product of Ryan's mind.
I don't recall him having anything to do with anyone else.
Yes and no, in that, as Wilfred is a figment of Ryan's mind, he can have all the knowledge of Ryan. If Ryan's mind sees it as an avenue for the narrative. Basically, Ryan's subconscious needed Wilfred to act on that information, so it reasoned a way to give it to Wilfred.
No. The woman died, but the question of whether Wilfred did or did not kill her helps and is keeping with the overall relationship.

When it comes down to it, Ryan is really f***ed up and has no other way of working out his s*** other than to create a character of this dog. And I think we saw that a bit when we met his mother and her cat.

And part of enjoying things is to sit back and let them develop and take you on a little journey...of entertainment. This show is so abstract with no promises of any explanations that I simply accept it for what it is. Caught a few of the original Aussie eps on IFC the other day. Even more strange.
