I'm gonna start by saying that I'm not a Black or Cera fan but I am a Harrold Ramis fan and this movie was a lot better than people gave credit for. I just watched it this weekend and Oliver Platt had me in stitches the whole time. I know humor is one of those things thats different for everyone, but more people should give this one a chance. Much funnier than that POS The Other Guys which made over $100 million.
Doh! That movie is certainly not better than The Other Guys. Hell, it's not better than well, anything. I have watched that all the way through once and I resent everyone involved with it. It was the absence of funny. A funny void so to speak. I love ya brother...but that flick is a special 7th level of hell bad.Quote:

I've tried a couple of times, but I have yet to find any combination of weed, booze, or sobriety that makes Year One tolerable.
I haven't seen it, but I remember watching a clip with David Cross and Paul Rudd that I thought was funny. Was it not?
I wouldn't mind watching the actual film at some point, but I'm not in any hurry.
That's what is sooooo bad about it. Its got some talented people in it, but Harold Ramis has to realize that assembling a cast and turning bible stories on their ear, isn't by itself funny. Clearly this movie is trying to be History of the World and it can't even reach the heights of Yellowbeard. And centering your movie on Michael Cera(who is not the strongest of personalities) and Jack Black(who, when he is left to his own devices is about as unwatchable as Robin Williams) was a bad idea to begin with. If this were showing on an airplane, I would walk out.
But did you not even think Oliver Platt was funny in it?
Oliver Platt made Lake Placid good. But he wasn't enough to save a terrible movie.Quote:
