Another day, another Natalie Portman authenticity scandal. But this one isn’t about how much dancing the Oscar-winner did or didn’t do in Black Swan; it’s of even more significance, to a certain segment of the movie-going audience: Did Portman use a butt double in her upcoming medieval comedy, Your Highness?

This is the part where you rewatch clips from Your Highness to investigate the would-be scandal… and find that Portman is clearly the one standing pondside shedding her medieval pants to reveal her own medieval rump in that medieval thong. After an exhaustive investigation, Film Drunk determines that the Irish butt double was used only in the diving portion of the scene in which Portman’s face is obscured, which makes sense.

Makes sense. They are going to use a stunt double for the dive anyway. Besides, any one who has seen Closer knows that it is, in fact, Portman's ass on display in those clips.

In the end, “Your Highness” resembles less the stoner comedy that the marketing team has been so hell-bent on portraying than one of the loving genre send-ups that Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg used to craft (that said, this is leaps and bounds above the Wright-less “Paul”). Everything feels so genuine and sincere – from the wonderfully realized creatures by Spectral Motion (who also did the great beasts in “Attack the Block”) to the awesomely sweeping score by Steve Jablonsky that sometimes folds in phonier sounding electronic elements to appropriate the ‘80s-nature of those original scores – that it seems inappropriate to call “Your Highness” a spoof. It’s goofy, for sure, and profane, and utterly, bat**** insane (bow down to the Minotaur penis scene), but it carves out its own bizarro groove. You may not laugh your ass off (though you likely will), but you’ll at least be impressed by a studio comedy as boldly strange and gorgeously photographed as this. [B+]

Awwwwwwwww yeah.

It's great, the commercials they run during Howard Stern on Sirius are full of cursing. Awesome!
