It stops me. My external is FW. This is a bad decision.

    I concur with this statement.

They have to separate the MBs and MBPs as much as possible now that MBs are getting the "MBP like" features of the past (aluminum casing, improved graphics card, LED display, backlit keyboard, SSD option, etc.) I think this is why we'll never see a 12" MBP again.

They will drop the plastic MB either in January or September. MacWorld '09 will introduce the 17" MBP with this new enclosure, new MacPros, and do something with the Mini. Don't forget Snow Leopard comes out in June.

(Oh, and they dropped FW completely from the Macbook line. BTW, $1299 for an entry level notebook?!?)
The $2499 MBP actually does come with 4 GB RAM vs. 2 GB in the $1999 model.

However, I am looking at getting a deal on this year's model. The 15" with 2.6 processor with the fast (7200rpm) hard drive should be a real bargain right now.

What's the deal with the glass screen? I am on the road all the time and I beat my machine up a little. Also, I do a lot of summer outdoor shows in extreme heat. It seems this new model would be more fragile and it's operating specs are more temperature restricted.

The new model does not seem as flimsy as you describe.

As for overheating, its been a month and I have yet to run into it. My old 15" Macbook Pro never liked hours of use on my lap sitting on the couch, and this one hasn't flinched doing that yet.

That's good to hear. I never thought it was going to be less sturdy like VCRW thought, but when the 17" gets updated, I'll probably pick it up with the tax return.

How have you been doing adapting to the glossy screen, BM?

If the 17" is also a glossy, I'll be skipping the upgrade.
