I'm not sure where this thing fits in.

It's not an iPhone.

It's not a laptop so no document creation, etc. Not really a biz tool.

I can already watch youtube on my iphone.

I can access internet on my iphone.

It's a reader, but I already have a Kindle.

I guess the only real innovation is portability of movies & TV shows downloadable from itunes? But a macbook covers that too.

Am I nuts here? Does it seem to be a superfluous offering since most people just need a macbook and an iphone?

Right. This. Plus a Kindle, which I have...along with the iPhone app that also downloads my Kindle publications to my phone...right to the page where I stopped reading last!

Then it's clearly not for you unless you consider making some changes.

I have an iMac and an iPhone. I was ready to purchase a reader last fall until I heard rumblings of a tablet. I'm selling my iPhone and sticking with an iMac, iPad, and Blackberry.

So you are basically buying the iPad as a reader? And why would your sell your iPhone in favor of a Blackberry?

More or less, yes, I'm buying it as a reader with additional benefits. I was considering the Kindle DX ($489) or Nook ($259). Since I use iTunes, buying an iPad ($499) over the Kindle DX is an obvious choice. However, FBJ's recent Nook review as well as other reviews made it harder for me to finalize my choice.

I'm selling my iPhone because I mostly use for web browsing, email, IM, and PDF/ebook reading. I need email, IM, and GPS when I'm on the go, so a used Blackberry will do the job.

I also read that it works as a photo display when it's docked. I was considering buying a Sony digital frame, and the iPad serves that purpose well.
