Avast AntiVirus / AdAware AntiVirus issue for PC Laptop

I have the most up to date versions of both software. My PC will decide to slowwww down big time randomly. Almost like the RAM doesn't exist. I check the RAM when it slows to a crawl and the computer still shows the 4gig of RAM. Its so slow that I have to reboot the computer. Rebooting works for a bit then all of a sudden it starts hanging again. Sometimes it starts slowing when Windows is still loading.

Anyone else experience a similar problem?? Can anyone recommend better FREE anti virus software? I'm thinking one or the other is slowing it up. I have disabled one at a time and it still does it. My wife has the same laptop and hers started doing the same thing around the same time.

I use AVG with no problems on a beater hp laptop.

Don't know what version of Windows you are using, but Microsoft Essentials gets pretty good reviews for basic antivirus software.

Maybe try uninstalling AVG and see if the hang ups go away? Sometimes if you pull up task manager you can see whats using up 100% of the CPU.

You can also run Malwarebytes to see if there is something hiding in there somewhere.

AVG and Avast are 2 different anti virus programs.

I had the previous versions of ADAware and tried the newest with the antivirus software in it. I am also using Avast anti virus. Unfortunately, I'm still running Windows XP Media Center Edition, but have a quad core PC with the maximum RAM (3.5 recognized).

I had the same issue with the slow downs. I uninstalled it and found another program (Malwarebytes) that doesn't have the real time updates and things like ADAware did, , but combined with SpyBot Search & Destroy, seems to work well so far.

I haven't experienced the slow downs since I uninstalled it either.

Nothing technically earth shattering here, sorry. Just wanted to say I had sort of the same issues. Good luck!

Remove all of your antivirus/antispyware/antimalware software
Install AVG Free, Malwarebytes Antimalware and Superantispyware.

You will be just fine with those 3 products.

Just a follow up with this. Turns out that a Windows update, probably a Service Pack update is why my laptop keeps freezing up. Something to do with it bogging up the RAM. I have 2 of these laptops and I found a forum where lots of people were having this problem with the same laptop. Friggin HP.
