What a pussy. That guy hits like a girl.

I used a real sledge hammer, it was quicker than that and I swung the hammer so hard the plater shattered. I actually had to sweep the parts up with a broom. I would like to see the government piece that drive back together and get the data.

Very true. F disk only gets rid of the root directories but leaves all other media in tact an available to be written over or, in the hands of the right person and software, accessed for the most part.

Cheap solution: Get a GOOD drill bit and drill. Perforate the **** out of it and say good-night. Easier than trying to open some drives to be sure.

Disclaimer: I do sell drive sterilizing software (beyond DOD standards), but wanted to give you the cheap way out first.

Take the drive out before you recycle the rest of the box.

Depending on how aggro you want to be, you can stuff it in a closet somewhere, or if you insist on destroying everything on it:

Drill a pile of holes in it, or better yet cut it open (Sawzall) and take the platters out. If you've never taken a drive apart, it can be an interesting experience.
at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.

I usually take them apart at work and shatter the plates. That and the guys at work like playing with the magnets.

Just be careful of the magnets in the drive, they can **** you up if you're not careful.
