Sorry. If it clips it must be Klipsch. I can't stand Klipsch speakers. Harsh, biting sounds, to my ears anyway.

Speakers are a component that an individual has to decide for themselves which sound best.

Listen to as many as you can and pick out the one that you think sounds the best.

The short answer is that yes a low end audio chipset will not push the same amount of power as one of the higher end laptops. Check the sound options in Control Panel and make sure the volume is turned up on all of your audio channels.
And thats how you get ants!

i actually just got a pair of these today. so far i'm really liking them. the sound they produce (which i heard gets even better after the break in period) is much fuller than other computer speakers i've heard. obviously they're not as good as my full setup, but for computer speakers i'm impressed. if anyone is interested in them, i'd be happy to report back with a more detailed review once i've had to really listen to them

I've had them for about a year now. They are not trash, but I stand by my original statement that they are "nothing special." In all honesty, I think my Altec Lansing 3.1 setup sounds better, even though it is older, and cost less. I use the Altec Lansing for my desktop, and use the M-Audio as a secondary sound output. Sometimes I push some of the audio to those speakers if I have a few things working at the same time, and sometimes I just hook my laptop up to the M-Audio and use both computers at the same time. I use the M-Audio almost every day, but i am not sure if I would buy them again. Now that I think back, I remember hating them when I first got them. There was some buzzing in the really low end at first, but it must have disappeared after using them for several months, because I don't have that problem any more. Either that, or I got used to the sound.

I've bought lots of M-Audio gear over the years, mostly because it was always cheaper than some of the other brands. A lot of the M-audio stuff I've bought has fallen apart, and had to be replaced with better, higher-priced, gear. Just about the only things that haven't fallen apart yet are the speakers we're talking about, and a sustain pedal. I am fully expecting the sustain pedal to fail sometime soon though.
