Default Buying a new TV....questions for you guys.

I've been waiting for a few months for the prices to drop on TV's and I really haven't seen it too much. At least on what I'm looking for.

Here is the one that I've been targeting:
    http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004NOXMHW/...l_9dcu04m8x6_b

The price hasn't really dropped one cent so I'm ready to bite the bullet. I guess that I have several question.

    1) any sites that you use that I might be missing that could have a better price? I'm seeing it for around $1250. Which I'm fine w/ but if I can save a few extra bucks on a different site I'm fine w/ that.
    2) from your experience are the protection plans worth it? They seem to be around $150-$350 depending on the length of coverage.

Consumer Reports always says to avoid the protection plans, since they are generally pure profit for the retailers. If you can, buy with American Express, since they will double the manufacturers warranty.

I have a 55 Samsung LED and couldn't be happier. Paid 1400 for it a year ago during cyber Monday. I never buy extended warranties.

i have the LG 55LV5500 smart TV. I let it sit in the box for four months, just brought it out when my TV of 10 years gave out. The picture is outstanding and all I did was just plug in the HDMI to the Directv box and added my kids Xbox and Blue Ray. Sound seems to be a problem with LCD or LED TV's so I bought a Sound Bar and it works great.

I am not into adding all of the other gadgets to the TV. I Just want the TV to have a good picture so I can watch the games and a movie once in a while. I will set up the internet portion later but right now all I care about is the picture quality.

I have a 3-4 year old 42 inch Sharp LCD and it is a fabulous tv. Sharp's are traditionally a bit cheaper than other brands like Sony and Samsung but rate highly in consumer reports. I also don't think you need a protection plan. If something is wrong (like a busted pixel) you will probably know out of hte box.

i have an older Acquos LCD in my Bedroom and the picture is STILL exquisite, even up against bigger badder models... they make great sets.

i have a 50" Panny Plasma in the Living Room, and i don't think i wanna buy another TV in a LONG time... i think Plasma is STILL the way to go right now.
