    Default Cable Modem Questions

I have had Cox internet service for about 5 years. Lately the internet has been slowing down a lot and in increasing frequency. My wife called Cox and they said to unplug the modem and let it sit for a few and then plug it back in. When she does that the service returns to normal. But more recently we have been doing this dance several time a night. Cox said that we own our modem and that we can buy a refurb from them for $45.00 or a new one for $98.00 or so. I have no idea what brand or model they are trying to sell us. But what do you peeps think? Should I buy one of their refurb, new or go down to Best Buy and pick one up? What brand should I buy or stay away from?

I guess my wife is having the her Cox guy come over tonight to look at her equipment. She does not like to wait around for service calls, but she said she scheduled the pizza delivery guy and the pool guy at the same time so she seems to be ok with that.

Can't help with the modem problem but you're wife seems to be setting up a classic porn scenario.

I doubt that, the only bad thing that she does is wear her roller skates around the house while wearing Dolphin shorts.

I've had the same thing happen a few times since we moved in this house. Even getting a new modem didn't fix the problem. The technicians never find anything wrong with the lines and after a while it just goes back to normal. Must be the area or something because I never had a problem at the previous place. And in Las Vegas Cox is really the only option for cable internet.

It turned out to be our modem was the problem. The tech suggested we buy a modem from Wal-mart. He said it is much cheaper than buying the same modem from them. Bought a new one and it works perfectly.

    This is what I suggest.

Amazon.com: Motorola SB6120 SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 eXtreme Broadband Cable Modem: Electronics

The cable companies will eventually upgrade to DOCSIS 3.0 and you'll be ready for the new speeds.

My parents have Cox and their service sucks. Cox is pretty much the only option in their area which blows me away.

Its not just their internet but the cable as well.

'Certain' channels black out and those 'certain' channels always seem to be Center Ice and some of the kids channels. The CI channels just cut in and out with a screen that says the game will 'be back soon!'

Its usually the earlier back East games which is the reason for getting CI in the first place. Cox just kind of shrugs their shoulders and says its not their service.

Last year, my parents had their house remodeled and a custom cabinet built to house the new tv and all the goodies they got. Along with all of the upgrades, they upgraded their Cox boxes. Everything worked fine for a few months and now its a recurring issue.

We have Verizon and if something happens to their equipment, they replace it for us for free. I'm just not impressed with Cox or their 'service'.
