DSLR Help- Canon Rebel EOS XS

Okay, so I have been loving my wife's DSLR, however recently it has been a pain in the butt. We were using it, then took a picture, however nothing came up on the LCD screen on the back. We waited and the screen was still blank so we turned off the camera waited and turned it back on, and still nothing.

I took out the battery, replaced it, still nada, and even tried a different battery-NADA. Now, I tried it the other day and the same thing happened, nothing, however when I pushed down on the shutter release button, the flash popped up but the LCD at the back was blank with no info on it at all. Am I SOL with this camera? It is less than a year old so I could send it back to Canon and get it looked at or replaced. Any help would be appreciated

Is it just immediately after you take a picture that you can't see it on the screen? Or can you not review your previously-taken pictures on the screen whatsoever? Can you get any kind of menu options on the screen at all? Why didn't you buy a Nikon? Does the camera write to the memory card (in other words, can you snap a pic, then take the card out and plug it into a computer's card reader to find out whether or not there's a pic there)?

If you can get a menu screen up, check the image review options (page 108 of the manual). If it is set to OFF for some reason, you won't get an image review after capturing.

Okay FBJ, here are some answers:

When I release the shutter button, nothing is happening. The screen is black with not sort of menu to see. Even when I switch modes on the dial, nothing is showing up on the screen.

I have tried recharging the batteries and the camera is set to write to a memory card. I have uploaded pics from the card to my computer

I did not buy a Nikon because I love the lens that I have for my SLR, which is also a Canon and the lenses are compatible (much better than the "free" telephoto lens I got with the kit).

I was just slingin' crap. ;)

If you can't get ANYTHING to come up on the screen (i.e. not even a menu function), you've got a problem. Others on here know more about Canon's function than I do (I've only had experience with the low-end Rebels, teaching new DSLR owners), but it sounds like a trip to the camera shop is in order to me.

That is what I was afraid of. Oh well, C'est la Vie...Maybe this means I can buy a new 50D which is way more camera than I will ever need

Take it to Canon in Irvine. Since it's under a year they will fix it and clean it for free.

I'm still a little unclear here, I get that it isn't reviewing the picture after you take it, and the LCD isn't displaying info when you change modes, but what happens when you hit the menu button?

I ask because you can set the LCD to behave in this manor, display turns off and won't turn on again until you hit the <DISP.> button or <SET> (see page 115 of the manual)

If it is totally non responsive, then RR has the right idea, take it down to Irvine.
