The guy's asking about entry-level stuff, what does pro equipment have to do with his question? That said, nobody else has pro level bodies. Selection of glass at the top level I will agree Canon and Nikon have an advantage in, but no in quality. I know Sony's top-end glass is every bit as good as Canikon, and you can't get Zeiss AF lenses in any other mount. I don't know, but I would guess Pentax's glass is also no worse.

I stand corrected then. They dominate the market, but it isn't because their products are better than everyone else... its because they're the most used by everyone.

(Personally speaking, I believe their products are better than everyone else, because they have been premiere makers of imaging equipment for God knows how long)

Back in the day with 35mm, I think the market was much more competitive. I shot with an Olympus OM-2 for the longest time... so you could make more of an argument for the Olympuses, the Pentax, the Minoltas, etc....

However, since the transition into the digital age, I believe that Canon and Nikon have emerged as a leaders. Call it better advertisement, or call it what you want, the fact remains that they are the leaders of the digital imaging industry.

Anyone looking to buy a Canon T1i with the 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens? I have that along with a Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS Telephoto Zoom Lens and Canon PIXMA 9000 Mark II Printer.

All are brand new, never opened.

    Leaders?

In sales? Sure. Lens selection? Sure.

Saying that they are overall leaders in (general) digital technology is a stretch.

Wow, nice photo. How close were you able to get to the subject?
