I am going to hijack this thread since I have a similar type question. I want to format my hard drive but the problem I am having is this. I bought the computer when Windows Vista was out. I upgraded to Windows 7 with an upgrade disc. I have made a recovery disc. Does the recovery partition on the HD actually have Windows Vista on it? I need that installed before I can re-install Windows 7. Discs no longer come with the purchase of a new computer.

The recovery partition has Windows Vista on it. You shouldn't need to "upgrade" from a previous OS. Just install Windows using the Windows 7 disk.

AMS-500HD Hard Drive Shredder by Ameri-Shred - YouTube

Its this, or dust off and nuke the site from orbit.

I'm probably going to have to buy one of these.
at the draft party a couple of years ago, and under a considerable haze, i heard Birdman yell out the following (about 4 or 5 times, i think) - "don't marry yourselves to players!" he went on to reiterate that idea more than once on the boards, and i believe it to be absolutely sage.

There are plenty of drive shredding services that exist out there already.

I purchased an older version of this WiebeTech Micro Storage Solutions - Drive eRazer™ Ultra - Easily, Safely, and Compltely erase all data from a hard drive that I use at work. It seems to do a good job of wiping drives.
