1. "Everyone else's" mailbox is almost certainly NOT working. I have had some issues logging in in the last day or so myself, as I'm sure many other users of gmail have. Surprisingly, everyone that uses gmail doesn't post on LGK, so the responses you are getting here do not ecapsulate the health of their entire server infrastructure.
2. Your mailbox (a long with a bunch of others) resides on one piece of hardware that is part of a whole. That particular part is "undergoing maintenance" right now which is why you are having problems while others are not.

While I feel nothing but the deepest sympathy for you not being able to use this free product, might I suggest you go with a pay service, or at least one that's not in beta, if what you desire is reliability and uptime? I guarantee you that your mailbox has been unavailable before, you just haven't noticed it.
