Default Going to have Windows 8 in a few days

Anybody already running it have any opinions on it?? I've been using XP for the last 8 years or so.

Regarding an e-mail program.......I know that Outlook Express has been/is history since Windows 7. Wondering if Outlook is still part of the OS, or, if I have install a 3rd party app like Thunderbird.

    TIA.

I have it now on my desktop. If you have a touch screen monitor then the app based stuff might work out. I spend most of my time in desktop mode however and that runs pretty smooth.
Printer drivers can be a bitch so beware
Other than that the start up speed is fantastic comparatively.
Also while better it still has a ton of notifications regarding changes to the computer.

    Thanks!

I won't be using touch screen, just mouse/keyboard for now.

From what I can see so far I will be running in desktop mode as well.

Yeah, drivers are always a big issue when a new version of Windows arrives. Windows 8 especially because it's such a huge overhaul/upgrade.

Oh one other thing you have to reset all the default open programs in the desktop as they will automatically go to the app based programs. It's annoying at first.

Also the cursor mimics the hand/touch motions so if you want to close app based stuff or toggle just do it the same way.
Close: Grab center top and pull down
Switch app: top left (alt + tab for the app pages)
    search menu: Right hand side
app screen: Bottom left (this one is the worst if you are just trying to click on your quick links on the task bar)

I've read the Euro version of Windows 8 does not come with the Media Player installed but that the USA version does. Is this correct info???? Or, do you have Media Player installed in your version????

I have it, it's funky though. I don't really use the media player that often. Theres the app one and the desktop one. You can set it to classic which is what I think I tried to do.

Thank You. I understand that Microsoft is trying to have one operating system for all devices but getting there is weird, to say the least ;-)

Wow. MP in XP was pretty cool after I got used to using it for a few days.

The start button and app stuff was a little weird the first few days since I don't have a smart phone and getting used to the differences between a laptop and desktops after 15 years of using those. Other than that it's fine. I don't know what all the negative fuss is about.
