No Sound on internet [Solved]
The posted link has a potential solution. Check out the first post that suggests creating a new file and importing it to your registry. Have you recently installed any new programs (Magic Jack, etc.) or any major updates?
no, that link didn't help.
I have not installed anything new for a long while.
btw, I got around to check on the system sounds. nothing produced a sound. hmmm. iTunes and WMP both work, but not this?
Ugh. This is getting frustrating!
OK, I'll just throw in some ideas:
- Unlikely, but speaker cables put into the wrong hole can cause strange sound problems.
- My OS is not in English, so I don't know the exact names, but try going to "system configuration", "sounds and audio devices", "change sound profile-or-whatever-it-is-called" and set the profile to "Windows default". If your problem is caused by an auto-update, this should fix it.
- Maybe try restoring XP if one of the restoring points is not from too long ago. If it's a software/driver issue, it might help.
- If that doesn't help, repair XP with the Windows CD/DVD and if that doesn't work, I'd consider re-installing XP as a last resort.
that. before the move, the previous audio system consisted of a home theater system and a PC speaker system. while setting things back up at the new pad, I decided to not use the PC speakers anymore, therefore leaving one port open. so I plugged the cord in there from the A/V console. now that D28 mentioned it, I moved that cord into the port next to that one, and that solved the problem. at least for now.
the odd thing was that the PC Speaker mode in the audio settings was turned on, but that did not help at all.
thanks all for the help. I appreciate it!
Wait, what? How were you getting sound at all if your speakers were plugged into the wrong port?
I have no ****in idea..
it wasn't the wrong port, just not the right port.
