They just f***ed both formats.
The average family movie watcher will buy all those movies on DVD this year.
HAHA.. nice spin... early adopters. The cheaper the better for the consumer. The providers will come.
The average consumer would never spend $450 (cheapest Bluray player now) for some titles that look marginally better than DVD that the average consumer currently owns a player.

It's not about spinning. Had BR been in the same position, and pulled the same move, my opinion wouldn't change. It's a "I'm going home and taking my ball with me" move.
I actually feel this whole action ties in nicely with that Microsoft boob that said MS doesn't want either format to survive, if it's true they're responsible for the payoff.

It was Paramount that made this decision, not Microsoft. Get on their case or not like I am.
So unfiltered, what does MS have in the works once (not if) these formats bomb?
They're all about a downloading service. I can't seem to find the interview where the M$ clown was quoted on his HD format position, but that was their focus.
Of course, we all know how well M$ does with forecasting "what the consumer wants." (The 360 comes to mind.)
