Thread: HDTV Question

Okay so I was watching my TV last night and I noticed that there were like static lines running down the screen. I tried to power off the TV, and the TV would not turn off so I tried manually on the side and still nothing. I then turned the TV off at the surge protector.

When I tried to turn the TV back on, nothing happened, even when I tried it from the button on the side. Any hints at what to do. I have a service tech coming on Monday (stupid Vizio for telling me one thing and failing to tell the service company about the appointment) Am I SOL on this TV? Thanks for the help and a big FU to So Cal Tech in North Hollywood for not being able to make a service appointment in the South Bay after 3 pm.

Are the lines vertical or horizontal? Do they appear on all inputs (tuner, Blu Ray/DVD, pc input. game)? Have you hooked up another TV to this box? If so, are the lines still there?

Have not hooked up another TV to the box, the lines are vertical, and when they showed up (were red and white) the screen was fuzzy on all channels. I cannot test the other inputs at this time since the TV is no longer turning on at all.

When you first started describing it I was going to say "bad HDMI cable" but then you said Vizio. I had similar problems with my Vizio (3 of them actually). They would start with vertical and/or horizontal lines, then it would turn on and get sound but no picture. Enough times turning it on and off would get the picture back.

Finally a tech came out to "fix" it. He replaced the backlight and the motherboard, then it wouldn't turn on at all (well done!). They sent me another unit, it started having similar problems. They sent me a 3rd, and I still have it, but it flickers from time to time and seems like it could crap out at any moment. Fortunately it is now my second tv, but I haven't had good luck with Vizio.

Sorry man, wish I had better news to impart. I hope the tech that comes out doesn't make it worse for you.

Its probably a blown power supply on the TV. It could have also blown the backlight and main circuit board inside.

Sounds like you are SOL. Get a warranty repair, sell it on Craigslist, go buy a better TV (I like Sharp).

Uh this is not what I wanted to hear, but thanks for the honest opinions guys. I did want the 47 in LED version

your power supply is more than likely gone and possbily the scan board or panel. time to replace with a Panasonic

Glad I opened this thread because I am planning to get a new tv soon, I thought Vizio was supposed to be one of the best...but after reading Bandit's post, it doesn't look like I'll be buying from them.

I was surprised too because gizmodo and CNET list the 55 and 47 in LED lit with local dimming as some of the best LED TV's along with the Sony
