I pay 52 a month after taxes and fees for unlimited data and mobile to mobile on Sprint. It helps to have an employer discount of 23%, but you may be able to get a discount through your work as well.
Regarding battery, you can root your phone in seconds using unrevoked and dl a program to clock down the processor on idle. Dude over at Android forums is claiming extended battery life with this method. You can also turn your phone into a hotspot for free. If you want full system access you'll need to root using toasts method.

just remember rooting voids your warranty.
So, does "Root" = "Jailbreak"?
technically NO
You can Jailbreak or unlock a phone without messing with the OS or any of the settings. You would do this just to use your current phone with a different carrier.
rooting you can change the OS the speeds the features etc...
Unlocking is far easier and can easily be put back to original for warranty purposes.
So, there's no way of restoring the factory settings on a rooted phone?? that sucks.
I'm pretty sure you can unroot your phone with either method. The unrevoked root is installed as an app. All you need to do is uninstall the app and power cycle the phone. I'm not sure how on the toast root but believe its possible. Check the xda devs forum for specifics.
Also, if you're planning to root do not install the ota update. This closes the hole to obtain root.
Root means you've gained root access/total control of the phone. Thats a bit untrue here as neither current root method for the evo is a full root.

Nice, just got my google voice invitation. Look forward to checking this out, although I hear the transcription is still a bit weak.
